2005 CR-V driveline noise
My mother watches my daughter and drivers her around dring the day in the CR-V, while we work. Her CR-V had been making a rubbing/grinding noise when manuevering slowly and turning. Like in a parking lot, or a sharp turn from a stop sign or light. Upon describing this, I thought maybe the power steering pump was noisy, but I took it out and it doesn't sound to be the PS pump. Sounds like it is from the wheels/driveline somewhere, but unable to isolate it. It has 41k on the odometer and is a 05, Realtime 4WD. Thanks for any help/suggestions.
There is a service bulletin on the CRV's for rear diff noise where they do a dual pump fluid flush free of charge. Contact your local honda dealer and they can setup that appointment for you.
The CR-V has only 41k on it, and the warranty expires at 36k. I think that should still be covered however since Chrysler has lifetime powertrain warratnies, along with some Fords at local dealers. I'd hate to see Honda loose faith in it's product quality and not help out. My mother babies it too. Is there somewhere I could find the TSB's ? I know I can find recalls. And I noticed the CRV is built in the UK. Was the 1st gen CR-V built in the UK, and do the UK CR-Vs vary in quality at all? I always hear about british cars being unreliable, like Jags, Austins, etc.... I imagine the engineering is still Honda-good?
Service bulletin is 07-024 from Honda. It does not cover after warranty has expired but many times the district rep will goodwill the flush free of charge if the mileage is close.
All that is required is a simple rear diff flush, that is something that should be done around the miles your at now anyway so if they don't cover it most places do the flush for under $100 and will resolve the problem.

The rear diff should be serviced at least every 15K miles. We get people in everyday with this issue, that have never change the fluid and 98% of the cases are solved by changing the fluid. There is also an updated Dual Pump II fluid which is comp. with the DP 1 fluid. Get it change and do some slow figure 8's...
The dual pump fluid is part of normal maintenance like oil, coolant and trans. fluid. I think it was generous Honda extended it through the warranty period. But like JDMITR said,if you haven't serviced it,to me thats not Hondas problem. Repalce the fluid and you'll be fine.

I am having the same problem with my 04 CRV at 40k miles. The owners manual states the fluid should be changed at 90k miles so 40k seems kinda early to be having problems with it. Is Honda the only source for the dual pump fluid? The closest dealer is 70 miles away and closed over the holiday.

Honda has changed the schedule over the years. However climate conditions and driving habits/use can change how the fluid breaks down. Dont just think you are getting jipped by Honda cause the fluid didnt last till 90k miles. A good example of this is Hondas new maintenance minder system that takes a lot of variables into account to calculate the time the oil is due for service by temps, driving patterns etc...
Yes use ONLY Honda Dual pump! Dont use anything else or you can cause damage to you diff.
