Default alternator thru bolt.

ok so i went to replace my alternator today and got every thing to come out or off except the thru bolt. it seems to be rusted onto the bracket its self because the alternator will wiggle forward and back but the bottom thru bolt wont slide out.. now ive sprayed pb blaster on it and im going to continue to recoat it with pb untill next weekend when i have more time.. but i was wondering if its ok to heat up this bolt with a torch or sumthing to get it out cuz a brass rod and a sledge wasnt getting the bolt to budge at all. thank again for all your time guys.

btw its a stock d16 from a 90si crx.

You could also try to unbolt the lower bracket from the engine block and pull everything out together. Once it is out, you could put a nut on the threaded end (just enough to protect the threads) and try tapping it out with a hammer.

I had the same problem on a block I was stripping down. I think I kept using liquid wrench on it and found something very close to the size of the bolt and proceeded to slowly pound the bolt out after cutting it off (it had mushroomed the end of the bolt from previous pounding). Pain...good luck

tryed taking off the whole assembly with the bracket and all but one of the bolts you cant get to unless the alt is out. as for hitting the bolt with sumthing, i was useing a solid brass rod about the thickness of zero guage wire and a sledge, i was hitting the bolt dead on with the tire off so i could get a straight shot. the thru bolt wont budge. i also noticed that there was never a nut holding on the thru bolt to begin with. so it looked like someone tryed this befor but failed miserably. ill have to pull the torch out next weekend.

yea mine was very stubborn too....It was the only thing left on the block so I had good access to it. I'm still not sure why it finally started to come out but it was little by little with a mini sledge. good luck

good to know im not the only one with rusty nuts and bolts... but my main concern was just that the bracket can hold up to the heat. thank you guys again for all the kind info.

I had same problem w/mine. I was able to unbolt the bracket from the engine block. Once removed, you can hammer the bolt out. Mine was not in good condition afterwards, so I just bought a long bolt and nut and put it in there. BTW I did try heat, PB Blaster and BFH with no luck.
