Default check engine light and vtec wont work?

i searched and didnt find anything because this is really weird. I was driving my 88 crx si with b16 and it would never warm up enough to hit vtec. it has never had any problems before. the temp. needle is lower than usual, and other than it not hitting vtec it drives normally.

any ideas of what thos could be?

my ecu is being retarded. if i knew i wouldnt be asking. the led isnt blinking and neither is the CEL.

im trying to figure this out, it just randomly is not warming up(or at least is saying its not warmed up), and its redlining at 6.8K like a non-vtec motor.

ok then how do you know there is a code?

Have you checked your cooling system?

Is your fan always on ?

i havent checked my fan. i was thinking its maybe the thermostat or i need to bleed the cooling system, but why would either cause the check engine light to come on?

Bad thermostat and or coolant temp sensor?

Change the thermostat anyway and see what happens.

As SIred said, try changing the T-stat.

Losing oil pressure is never good. And vtec operates of off oil pressure.

first question, how long since an oil change? second, does your car burn oil
third, if the oil smells like gas when was the last time you did a tune up? cap, wires, plugs?

Thanks for the most useless info ever.

Kid, you need to do some serious run downs on your engine. Oil light coming on, if the sensor is not broken (seen it happen), basically means you ran your engine dry of oil, almost. The oil light comes on when you oil pressure sensor cannot sense oil pressure. I would look into getting a digital oil pressure sensor from a shop and testing to make sure the oil pump isn't dead.

ok so heres the deal, after driving it down to the shop to get the fuel pressure tested, the bguy said he doesnt think thats the problem.

underneath my dizzy, the headgasket is leaking oil, which also has the gas smell.

he said that can cause a car to run rish since its burning oil in the cylinders and the o2 sensor has a screwed up reading, causing it to run rich.

tell me if that sounds alright, i have never worked with that particular guy before.

agree with nickp, my advice though is if your gonna pay to get it repaire and not do it yourself try going to a few different shops and choose one you feel comfortable at
