On my friends built 00 si the grommet lights up when you try to turn the car over. Anyone know what would cause this?


I checked the grounds. i dont know what else would cause it.

 

Wow never seen that are all the wires ok any show wear signs or anything?

 

it might be arcing off of one of the wires. that is weird though

 

car is fresh. ONly been on the road for a mounth or so. just started doin this. i can't figure it out all the plug wire are stock i dont think it should be a problem or if 8.5mm wires would fix it?

 

Just replace the plug wires with some new stock ones. What's happening (as far as I can tell from your description) is that the wires are old and worn. This creates little tears and holes in the silicone liner and rubber casing, and electricity is arcing to the nearest metal -- that grommet.

 

i would try to look at it when its dark then u could see where its really coming from

OK so we got new wires. and it still sparks and lights up. the car also has trouble starting or rolling over i can't figure out whats causing this. please help!

 

Can't tell me this never happened to anyone before. I searched 50 different things, nothings comming up

 

Is the engine / valvecover properly grounded?

It probably has but maybe just not to anyone on Honda-Tech. It's obviously very uncanny.

 

Yes we checked the ground on the front of the valve cover. and on the same side but the back it looks like theres a spot for another ground so took the ground of my car and put it there. still no good. any other place i should look?

this is redicilous. I have never seen this before.

 

uhh they only place it could come from is your wires.... id say. so its cranking fine.. check see if you have spark on all plugs. be careful if you have a spark jump. make sure that the contact surfaces of the ground leads are good. you may have a bad or poor connection. but again id say its arching from your wires. even tho you said you changed the wires... idk. check your ignition system. what is that the number 3 lead? check that. if its having trouble starting id also check timing. not that hard to check.. remove the valve cover. and put your crank to tdc. there is a single notch;line it up with the single notch on the cover about 10 oclock. and check.

 

Timing is fine. Car runs fine once we start it (pop start it)

 

I had that issue, it is def bad wires, but mine was arcing inside the valve cover.

 

How was it arching inside the valve cover? we just replaced the wires, and it still does it. so weird

try silicon around the bolts it might stop it from acrhing

 

spray...? Um the cars clean and i'm trying to keep it from getting any more Fed up then the burn mark i have now.

 

no get the tube gel type and use it like u were tryin to stop a oil leak cause i think its the rubber from the little caps that are lettin it go through it and spark so if u put some under and a little around it might make it stop

 

So the wire was grounded iver te cam gears i think and that what was causing it. I'll post pics tommorow incase anyone else may have this problem

 

Sounds like maybe the power wire to the starter is grounding out? that could send a stray current to the engine. that could be why it does not do it when you pop start it

did you fix the problem?

 

yes problem was fixed. the wire was grounded over the cam gears to thr right of the engine bay instead of the front. thought it looked better over there, but i geuss it dosn't work huh
