That's what I'm thinking. Building a car, without rules, or knowing what class it will be in is tough....haha

my biggest issue rule wise has to deal with intercooler. in nopi trim, you were allowed a/w intercooler as long as all items were under the hood. i'd like to go this way still, being i drive a rabbit, we dont exactly have front bumpers to house intercoolers in. my a/a setup now is in front of my rad, which has given me cooling issues.
next biggest issue is fuel tank/cell. nopi, cell was ok. Nhra, it was not. I much rather have a cell than the oem tank. Then i could properly run fuel lines w/o worrying if i am rearended on the street while using a sumped tank, will i catch fire...
last real issue is the exhaust rule. nhra, you had to exit rear of the car. Nopi, you can do whatever. once again, being a old vw, 3 inch wont clear over rear axle beam. so i would have to do a side exit. 3 inch will clear the axle beam if i had a cell in the car though...
safety wise, stuff is all the same, so no problems there.
interior wise, nhra had you retain factory interior. My car is not factory interior wise, as i made my own dash. I made it by using a 70 mg dash, and molded off of it. It goes w/ the lines of my car better. I know it was nopi legal being i had turn signal indicators, tach, speedo, headlight warnings, wipers, turnsignals etc etc. Yet it was not nhra legal because my dash was not oem.
Now im willing to put a factory dash back in my car, but are dash swaps allowed? As i hate the looks of the early 80's dashes. I would rather stick a bmw e30 dash in the car. Kinda like how the 5th gen guys swap integra dashes.
the catchpan, that was an nhra only rule, but i plan on making it regardless as well as having the pan lined w/ an absorbing cloth/padding--as it is a vw, **** is going to leak no matter how much hondabond or how straight/clean sealing surfaces are, lol.
on that note, it is about 2am, and 30 degrees here in PA where i live. As i type this, someone just decided to take their old domestic out, put it up on the chip w/ the line lock on in front of my house, and do a burnout. And i have no f-ing clue who did it.
Damn i cant wait to be racing again.
edit-- the purchases i'm holding off on that i eluded to in my earlier post are the a/w intercooler, and the turbo. i have a 35r, but am holding off on a 42r to see if they do cap turbos this year...

I know last year, if you ran ethanol, that immediately put you into a Pro class regardless (per Glenn). Are you talking E85 or straight ethanol??

It's not about octane at all with alcohol. Actually even straight ethanol or methanol don't have a crazy octane rating. Alcohol has a lot less stored energy when compared to gas
Ethanol - 113
Methanol - 107

If your cars are on hold because of the rules, I suggest getting in touch with Nopi and just letting them know what you are doing. They will be able to point you in the right direction so that you can continue to work on your car.
