it is located on the tranny where the speedo cable goes into the tranny
located almost straight down from the throttle body and as far as gas goes not to sure i know it shouldnt let you rev all the way out

easiest way to find it if you dont know what ur looking for is follow the cable comming out of the fire wall there are 3 cables clutch speedo and throttle locate the speedo cable(process of elimination) and your good...The cable could have just popped out if you dont have the little clip holding it in............and it shouldnt effect your gas mileage

It depends on what problem you're attempting to solve. What are you doing? Did the speedometer stop working? Is your Check Engine light on?
What do you mean by "affect the gas"? How would the speed sensor affect the gasoline all the way back in the fuel tank?

No. That's not the VSS - it's simply the mechanism that drives the speedometer cable.
The Vehicle Speed Sensor on an '88-91 USDM Civic is located on the back of the speedometer in the gauge cluster, right where the speedometer cable plugs in.
On '92+ Civics, the sensor was located directly on the transmission there.

yea speedo dont work and check engine light is on.and i feel like there power missing. computer reads 7 (vss) so i was thinking of going to the junk yard and jacking another vss any other suggestions?
Im having the same prob in a jdm sc-zc.But also my tach spikes above 3k rpm"not all the time".And i was getting the vss code till i plugged in my speed-o cable, now i just get code #1 which is faulty or unplugged sensor. Is the vss sensor on the back of the gauge cluster? There is a electric plug there.......Don't know. The only reason i ask is cuz the housing where the cable goes in at just don't look like a senor. And in the manual it says if you unbolt that housing something might fall into the tranny....I just don't know...Also i think your #7 code is - defective circuit or unplugged / defective TP sensor .

ok well today i took off my speedo and looked into it i noticed the spring broke off. its repairable but its a tight spot. also when i took the cluster off the plug for the speedo is ok but the needle inside the plug i dont know how but it was pushed in so i need nose plyers wich i dont have to pull it out so when i snap it back in it can be more affective. and my speed sensor i havent taken it off bcuz i dont have the proper tool but im pretty sure even if i fixed the vss the speedo wont work untill i fix it or get one from the junk yard.
