clutch master cylinder and clutch- help?
I opened the cap the the master cylinder and I noticed there wasn't any fluid in there, and I can't seem to see the fill lines? Also my car shakes vigorously when I start off in 1st gear sometimes, and the clutch friction point is lower than normal maybe 1/4 of the time. Whats wrong?
Thanks

For the cylinder, you simply fill it up until you see the floater "float."
Sounds like it needs replacing ASAP. Check your firewall and if you see fluid leaking, you need to get it changed. More likely than not, a new one will also cure your friction point problem.
For now, bleed the clutch and see if that helps at all.

I am having the same problem you are. My car even makes a little metal grinding sound once in a while when I start off in 1st. I bet if you lift the dust cover off of the slave cylinder there will be fluid there. You may not need a master cylinder, and just a slave cylinder. They are about $70. For now just keep filling it, and bleed it.

Look in the front of the engine bay, right to the passenger side of the heat shield. there's a bleeder bolt sticking off of a metal thing there--that's the slave cylinder. if you want I can scan in a page of the helms manual this evening to show you
Does your car ever make a little metal screeching sound when you start off in 1st? Just wondering, I don't think it is from the Slave, but it started to happen shortly after my slave went.
sometimes, when I start off, my original friction point is there.. but at other times, my friction point is noticably lower and it feels like it just hooks up automatically real fast.. i am thinking about changing my clutch/pp
If you need a clutch master cylinder, I'll sell you my extra for $90 shipped(brand new are about $150 from the dealer). Needs the gasket. You could reuse the one on you car.

Well, I did my slave cylinder and the car feels good now. I still get that noise because I need new axle seals. The slave only cost me $80 Canadian.
