Default RADIATOR FITMENT

I stated I would get back with my comments RE radiator quality. Well, I got the unit. So I won't get "bounced", the radiator cost a buttload of money. Solid aluminum/metal, performance grade, starts with an "F".

I did a lot of research, and, once again, as usual, nobody "selling" the product had any tech. info., I had to do all my own research. Being as I am building a slightly HP street car (not a track-car), I had decided I wanted to keep the option open for AC, so I needed the predrilled/threaded holes for the AC fan (condenser fan) on the casing.

Two places I get info I need to buy a special AC compressor fan for the radiator (it comes with a slimline cooling fan). The issue never got resolved, so to cover my butt I did order the "AC fan". Conflicting data-do you need the "special" fan, or is the unit predrilled for stock AC compressor fan usage? Very, very typical.

I get the "F" radiator, and open it. A very expensive, very nice unit. The supplied, mounted cooling fan seems alright. The welds and metal quality look good. Look-it IS drilled/tapped for the stock Ac fan- BUT

I check the stock fan mounting. Every drilled/tapped hole is OFF. The entire pattern is off by about 5/8". Bend the legs of the OEM fan to work? Plastic legs? I don't think so. So the OEM fan won't work. Maybe the "special" fan will? I look at it. It has a "special" handy-dandy mounting kit that holds to the radiator with plastic SNAP-TIES. Maybe it would work (I didn't even bother to open the plastic bag holding the mounting kit), but GIVE ME A BREAK- plastic snapties to mount the fan to a +$450 radiator?? Doesn't matter IF it would work, NO WAY.

So, it goes back, all of it. The story of about 50% of the "high-end" performance parts I have bought in the past 2 years or so.

Stock numbers are wrong, so you get the wrong part. You get the part, and it's right, but some !#$%^ had it before, tried to use it , and f------ it up. The part is right, but the mounting is not correct. You get the part, but the idiot that sold it to you had incorrect tech-data, so the application isn't right. The tch data you were given is wrong, so the part is right for the car, but not to match with other parts.

Where does this s--- end? I am not the only one- I have talked to numerous "car-heads" having the SAME problems with aftermarket parts, even high-end expensive ones. This radiator goes back! no way am I spending that kind of money to "crap-rig" the AC fan. I will move on to another manufacturer, this time I plan to try Koyo.

Good luck, my friends. I have been building cars for 30+ years, and this problem with AM parts is GETTING WORSE as time passes. After I build the engine this winter for this car I think I am DONE.

It's getting to where it's no longer fun anymore, the headaches/time problem with parts just isn't worth it. And if you have just started restoring your first car, get ready. The Bulls---- is coming.

Think you coilover kit worked? Just wait until you REALLY start working on the suspension (a "kit" doesn't count, wait until you REALLY start replacing bushings! The HARD stuff.) Wait until you start tranney/clutch/electronics/engine work. Then it REALLY gets interesting.

And I have been buying parts for 30+ years- I KNOW what to check for/ask BEFORE I buy the part! And they still don't work about 50% of the time? MADNESS PREVAILS! VERY FRUSTRATED WITH A CAR STILL ON STANDS- Wrenchy
