1996 Civic EX, Electronics issues
I have a few electrical problems that I need help with.
First, my electric locks and mirrors act weird. Sometimes when I hit the lock button both doors will lock, other times only the drivers door will lock. When only the driver door will lock, if I was to use the electric mirror button, I can hear the passenger doors lock motor try to engage the lock, though it does not actually lock it. Occasionally everything works great and there is no problems at all. Think it is just a short somewhere or do you think things are wired incorrectly?
The car does hold a salvage title though it was only the front end that got wrecked.
Second issue is my speedometer. It either works or it doesn't. When I am driving it is either on 0 or reading the speed I am going. The gauge doesn't jump around and I have no check engine light that comes on. The gauge flat out works or doesn't work. When the speedometer isn't working the odometer doesn't work also, which makes sense.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

try checking the wire harness in the door. also check from the harness back into the door.
With the speedo. check the harnesses behind the cluster are all plugged in snug. the speedo is very easy to take out. two screws to take off the plastic bezel and 4 screws holding the cluster in. also take off the plastic panel below the steering wheel and check all the wiring make sure all the plugs are secure and make sure no wires are loose or damaged. look for signs of a alarm install.

my bet is with the wire bundle that goes from the door to the inside of the car. i bet if u trace that u will find your problem.
