OT: Question for Electrical Gurus
This is the third winter my car has done this now...
I haven't had any brake work done yet, and I don't use my parking brake. In the winter, usually on colder days, my parking brake light comes on! While I'm driving, if I push the foot brake pedal, the light goes out. As the car (or day?) warms up a bit, the light will eventually go out on it's own.
I'm thinking there is a bit too much tension on the e-brake cable even when released, which when it is cold is making the light go on; but why does the light go out when I press the foot brake? I don't mind seeing the steady e-light, but it blinking on and off as I brake is a bit distracting!...
tia.

Your e brake light is also tied to the float in the brake fluid master cylinder reserviour, disconnect the wires for a little while and see if your issue goes away, out at the float.

yep yep, I asked about this 3 or 4 months ago

So there's no cable adjustment needed; will adding additional brake fluid eliminate the light (I haven't checked the level yet)?
How have others worked around this; disconnect the wires to the e-brake?

Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes it's necessary to replace the float on the reservoir cap and the screen inside the reservoir. Acura issued a service bulletin in regards to this.

Dave, how do you know about this...it is 85 degrees outside

Sometimes when my R did this, I just took the brake fluid cap off, moved the float back and forth on the side of the reservoir, and put it back on and the light went out. Like others said, its just cold and it moves back and forth. If you do put more fluid in, make sure you take some fluid out when you do your brakes next time, because if you don't as you push the cylinder in it will overflow and make a mess.
I just picked up a daily driver a few days ago, so the days of driving the R in the winter are gone now for me!
