Default Working on my transmission and need input..

I am going to change my clutch myself and while I am at it, fix a leak and add LSD. Now, I have the following parts for this job:
ACT street clutch kit
ACT flywheel (Streetlite)
3 rubber oil seals from Honda (making sure I got the right one)
DC5R LSD
What else if anything do I need before I start this job? I heard something about maybe a speedometer gear?

2005 EP3 5-speed transmission.

let me know how this goes, i may be changing a clutch in my soon to be 02 type-s and knowing someone with a background in K series trannies might be nice...

Also, isnt a EP3 and a DC5R tranny very different? wasn't aware the LSDs were that universal... im just asking.

The differential is interchangeable with all K-series transmissions. It will be a fun weekend...

You have any special tools? Maybe jackstands? PM me.

Anyway, anyone have any input on the original post? I need to have all of the parts together before I start. I don't want any surprises.

then pay someone to give it back to you correct, with no surprises. your talking about changing your own clutch and your asking for "special tools" like jack stands. good luck your a braver, or "less than" braver, a man than I. I actually just like driving my car. Good luck

I've never taken a tranny apart but i wouldn't be afraid to. As long as you can remember how things come apart you can put them back together... no matter what it is.

I have tools, but I'm supposed to pickup my RSX on saturday I believe, and sunday I have personal business to attend to. The only advice I can give you is KEEP IT CLEAN, you dont want anything in the transmission, including dirt.

You need a snap ring plier and the bearings have to be pressed on so you will need access to a press. A new speedo gear wouldnt hurt cause most likely you will break it when you remove it. This isnt a job for an amateur. Whats the most complex thing you have done to your thus far if you dont mind me asking?

A speedometer gear from a DC5 or an EP3, or are they the same? And yes I am going to do all of this myself versus a shop charging me $1000. If I paid that, I would spend $2000 on parts and installation. Too much.

Your gonig to need Honda ultra flange sealant, a dial indicator, thrust shims, a torque wrench, snap ring and sirclip pliers, a ball joint seperator, engine hanger, and honda MTF among other things that escape me rite now....

***EDIT*** shop press, torch, brass drift...

Thanks for a real answer. I know about the fluid, obviously, and I use a different brand, not Honda MTF. I have purchased new bearing rings, and a speedometer gear. What is the torch for? What is a "brass drift" or really most of what you listed? Like I said, I have changed clutches with just a scissor jack and a simple socket set.

Ok cause the links I gave you didn't have a list of tools and parts needed with a step by step on how to do it. Thanks....

The spedo gear is a super hard metal. If you press it with anything more than brass it will chip and possibly shatter. You have to set the thrust of the diff inside the case. Thus the dial indicator.....and thrust washers.

Heres some input as i am doing my clutch right now.

How do you get the top starter bolt out??? please dont tell me you gotta take of the I/M. I put a mirror up there and looked in at a bolt that i am 90% sure goes through the starter but then again on the acuraautomotiveparts website it only shows 1 bolt

so get ready for this its gonna be a bitch.

I am having a hard time believing you changed a clutch with a scissor jack as you wouldn't have even had the clearance off the ground to get the transmission out.

You can usually slide them out of the wheel well pretty easily even if the car isnt that high off the ground.

Looks like I will be doing a clutch swap on my RSX, haha I think that is why the people sold it so cheap, they thought there was something wrong with it, poor thing just needs a clutch

Are you gonna do a fly also or just get it resurfaced?

Is getting a new flywheel really that necessary? I assumed they could handle more than one clutch... (especially one that only made 50k miles)
