The right side of my dash on my 97 Accord....gas gauge side has become very dark. It appears that there are lights that shine down on the gauges instead of individual gauge lights. I cannot find a diagram on how to replace these bulbs. I know someone here can tell me. Thanks.

I made a cluster removal thread in the Accord FAQ that was just text and now there's one with pictures as well. I'd take a look at that if I were you as it'll show you everything you need to do to replace those bulbs ( only need a phillips screwdriver)

And I do indeed know where you're talking about, they'd probably be the least expensive. If you would like to hold off until next week I'll be finished with my exams on Monday and would be more than glad to replace them for you. (For free)

 

Thanks, that's a mighty generous offer, but I can do it. I was just asking if that repair place was still there in case I had some major things to fix. I read your instructions on the dash cluster. Sounds like you know these cars inside and out. Maybe you can shed some light on my auto tranny issue.....several people have told me that 94 - 97 Accords w/auto have an inherent problem of the transmission not sucking enough fluid when cornering causing the engine to over-rev when accelerating out of a turn. It's almost like the tranny is slipping, but it's just trying to find a gear. Mine does this but I can't believe that Honda produced a car that has this flaw. Have you heard of this?

 

Hmm for the most part those gen cars aren't known for transmission problems, other than shifting roughly (mostly noticeable between 1-2).

I'd suggest having the transmission fluid changed with Honda ATF (do the drain/refill 3x).

What mileage is on the car?

The 98-02 are the tranny eating monsters.

 

Muffin Man.....sorry, but I'm just getting around to replacing these dash lights. I read your tutorial, but it sounds like this is for removing the entire dash. I didn't see anything about just replacing the bulb that shines down on the speedo and gas gauge side of instruments. I see 2 phillips head screws above the tach/speedo.....I'm figuring that if I remove these, I can pull the clear plastic toward me and access these lights. I imagine that this is all one piece that covers the sunroof, dimmer, vents, etc areas as well. I just don't want to break something by missing a screw and forcing it. i need to replace some of these bulbs too.. i'm good with removing the dash and all but can someone recommend some aftermarket interior bulbs that will brighten up the cabin a bit? The stock replacement yellow bulbs are hideous and dont light very well.

 

Yep Hey Ronald, yeah there should be a white plastic bar that sits up on top of the cluster. You don't even need to unscrew anything but the little bulbs. Just twist them out and you're good to go.
