Default electrical mystery - scary stuff

so i bought this 91 civic dx sedan for the winter.

and ive been driving it for the last month and its starting to get a lot colder out.

so anyway, today is really cold and for some reason the heater cut out and the fan stopped working.

so i get home and check the fuse, and there is no fuse in the 30a heater motor location.

it was empty

so i put in a 30a fuse from the spare fuses and it works fine now.

so how did the motor work for the last month with no fuse?

side note: i picked this civic up for 1000$ locally with 220 000 kilometers on the clock, all body rust has been removed (its nice fresh light blue paint) and it gets amazing gas milage. better than my other ef sedan.

You could have two power wires shorted together, one will backfeed the fan circuit, it will not blow the fuse cause it is not shorted to ground. I have seen this two times now. If you have a digital camera and post some pics I will help you work through this, I am building a pictorial tutorial for Air Conditioning and your problem is right up my alley but hurry, I will be moving next week and no computer for awile after that.

i had a similar thing happen to my ef hatch, except it was my radio. they had an extra power running to it so i took it out and put it back to stock harness, worked fine. i was driving one day and it just stopped working. looked at the fuses, the radio fuse was missing, put it in and now it works fine again.........

strange........
