Default Check Engine Light

Before I start pulling interior pieces out to look, can someone tell me if I can access the fault codes on a 2001 EX using the jumper method like my 92 Si or do I need to get a code reader for OBDII?

If I need to do the OBD route, where is the connection located? If not, is it safe to assume the ECU is located on the passenger side like past models?

Thanks for the info.
