I have a 96 Honda Accord that usually runs just fine. Occasionally, for some unknown reason, it won't start. It acts like it wants to & the motor turns over, but it's like it's not wanting to fire. If I keep trying, it might start up but it idles around 300 RPM. If I give it a little gas, it moves up to 1500 RPM and runs fine but smells rich. My mechanic has looked at it twice when it happened, but it didn't happen with him and ran just fine. Now, I'm afraid I'll get stranded somewhere. It happened during the summer and again this week. Any suggestions?

 

when was the last tune up.. wires, plugs, cap, rotor? how many miles

 

It could be the main relay (sometimes it's called fuel injection relay). Read this earlier thread.
