Yea it sounds like your running on 3 cylinders, check your spark plugs and wires and make sure one didnt pop loose. Maybe a clogged injector?

Its a misfire. Wash down your engine bay lately? You might have gotten water into one of your spark plug holes. Could also be an ignition or fuel problem as stated above.

ive power washed my share of engines and just make sure you look over everything before you start...its not that big of deal. ive seen alot of **** the mechanics and people do that just amaze me...there really isnt much hurt in power washing the bay.

Like the guy above said, subaru engines are "flat 4s" the pistons dont go up and down they go side to side. Heres a pic:

I have the same problem and I had a guy at work look at it and he did a compression check. There was no compression in my 2nd cyclinder whatsoever and my sparks where fine. I'm wondering would it be a bent valve? I'm guessing my brother took it up too high when I let him get behind the wheel.

yea you gotta fix that then. if theres no compression on one cylinder it means your only running on 3 cylinders. should fix it asap. it could blow your motor so get it done fast.

Leak down test will tell you exactly where compression loss is coming from. If you dont know how to do one check google.

scubies also sound they way they do because of their uneven headers and how one side runs longer then the other to attach to the exhaust.

my 98 automatic LS used to do the same thing, get your injectors/ spark plugs/wires checked. and if it continues to happen, your more than likely running on 3/4 cylinders. Mine turned out to be a mix of low gas and bad injectors. replace all 3 to be sure

the firing sequence of the cylinders, I believe is 1/3 & 2/4 fire at the same time not like an inline 1,2,3 & 4.

Right. Put aftermarket headers on a Sube and it will sound like any run of the mill Honda.
