Default water temp sensor

my car is throwing code #6 which is the water temp. sensor.
does anyone know where this is located and how do i replace it? also will it be dangerous to drive my car for more then an hour not knowing if my car is going to over-heat or not..

Follow your top radiator hose to the block and look for a sensor that looks similar to this:



You should only see the black part and the nut that holds it in, the rest is inside the block. You should be fine driving it an hour if you have never had overheating problems, but you never know, its just a risk you gotta take.

The TW sensor only reports to the ECU for fuel trim and timing adjustments, etc. The temperature guage is driven from a separate sensor, so if the temp is reading normal, no problem driving a while, except for fuel economy and performance losses.
