Default blue smoke WOT in 5th

i was on the freeway at WOT in 5th and as i approached 200km/h i noticed light blue smoke (or what appeared to be) coming out of the exhaust, so i eased off the throttle to fall out of boost and then continued to drive at a slower speed for another few minutes where i exited the freeway and drove another 10 minutes home and the car drove fine the entire time after seeing the smoke..

whats up with the blue smoke??
it is sorta cold out could that have anything to do with it?

Problem: My car is smoking!

Possible reasons/solutions: What color is the smoke?

White indicates coolant.
blown headgasket
dropped sleeve
coolant center section on GT turbo going bad
head lifting under load

Blue indicates oil.
turbo seals going bad
cracked rings/ringlands on pistons
leaking valvestem seals
cracked valve guide
failed PCV system pushing oil into intake manifold
oil leaking from seals or catch can could be leaking onto exhaust
taken from evanstuning

as you can see there could be a few reasons for the problem thats why no one has replied cause there is just to much to speculate on.

You're not going to take anyone's advice anyway, so why does it matter?

o you notice a "little" blue smoke while approaching 200? if you see smoke coming out your pipe at 200, its more than a little. and your crazy for looking anywhere but the road while doing those speeds.

maybe turbo got really hot cause egt's were pretty high, moving oil past the seals? but youd think a hot seal would expand? just some food for thought. I wouldnt worry if it only does it at 200 wot in 5th gear with crazy loads

yeah that could be very possible i didnt see the cold part, well if the tune was boarder line lean in regular temps the denser air could have leaned out your afr's that plus 5th gear high load might have taken its toll on the rings

If it only does it under those conditions WOT 5th gear pulls you're probably fine.

Do you have a catch can??

ya i figured it was because of the cold making it lean and the high egt with high load...
so i will refrain from doing another 200kmh run in the cold weather.. or actually at all from now on.. id rather be on the safe side for the next couple months because i dont want to rebuild til the spring..

no i dont have a catch can.... why do you ask?

thanks for the reassurance that i will be fine...

you should get a catchcan in the best interest of your motor under boost

The stock PCV system recirculates the oil vapor back into the intake manifold which can cause detonation as well as not release enough of the crank case pressure. A catch can releases crank case pressure that builds up during boost and gets rid of most of the oil vapor so it doesn't go back into the motor and cause said detonation. There is a lot of theory about different ways to install. If you search you will find them.

Anyone else want to shed more light on the subject feel free.

Did you do a compression/leakdown/coolant hydrocarbon test to verify the condition of the motor?
The stock pvc system only recirculates via the tube between the valve cover and intake pipe, if the pcv valve is of halfway decent quality. (it should be a one way valve. I've tested new ones and they weren't.) That's garbage. That would allow your crankcase to become pressurized with boost. So now in addition to the boost bleeding into the crankcase, the increased blow by under boost would also attempt to pressurize the crankcase. The only place for it vent is the little breather tube on the valve cover, which you've probably connected a small filter to. That's not enough. The result would be more oil past the rings into the combustion chamber, the disptick tube possibly being pushed out, and oil leaks in various places around the motor. Also, keep in mind that oil has a lower octance rating than gasoline, so it is theoretically possible to blow the motor by oil induced knocking..

I think it might be simple:

High-load, boosted high compression=block pressure.

block pressure=extra oil getting past the rings.

exactly and so i think if i dont continue doing that i should be fine

maybe not.. but that doesn't seem right.. u should be able to

actually right now the tube on the vc is open and venting, no filter on it or anything.. im not losing oil thru there am i? its been 1500km since my turbo install and oil change. i guess i should check the levels

i'[ve had 3 turbo b18's and they all seems to puff a llittle something in high gear full boost. most cars i've seen and watched on the dyno also do the same. long as its not smoking on idle or deceleration you're pretty much good.

ps. turbo cars need a bit more attention. do check your fluids more often. expecially if you just recently turbo'd the motor.
