ok. so ive had my EK coupe for about 2 months now and i was curious about my gas mileage. lately ive only been gettin about 240 to a tank. i was wondering what other people were getting. here is my set up....
bone stock 97 D16Y8 with an AEM short ram intake.
last week i finally sourced a stock intake set up for my car and ive installed it with a K&N air filter to see how much mileage i can get out of her. so i was just wondering if this sounds about right?

I have a 2000 DX hatch (stock) and average 317 per tank.

 

with a cracked manifold in my 2000 hatch leak I manage ~300 to the tank,

~29mpg by my math when I fill up.

 

"Per Tank" is such a vague term. Even if you fill up to the top and go until the gas light comes on, the variance can be 1-3 gallons. Which makes a HUGE difference when trying to calculate mileage.

Instead, do a simple MPG calculation. Fill up, reset trip odo, fill up again, divide miles driven by # the gallons used.

440 doubt that lol. I've had 2 y8's the first i got about 360 a tank at best and the new engine w/mods Im getting around 270 a tank now but I do considerable amounts of city driving too hardly any highway. City drivers(dumb *******) make me pop vtec every now and then too.

 

Flat roads, easy on the pedal. I completed that feat a few times.

that's like 44mpg.

I call bullshit.

 

when i fill up i usually fill about 7.5 - 8.5 gallons which roughly gives me 30mpg? how big is my tank supposed to be? i was assuming it would be about 8 gallons? am i wrong to assume this? when my gas light comes on how many gallons or miles do i have left before im completely dried out? cuz if i have more gas than that in the tank i might have to push the car farther. thanks. and im gonna be doin a minor tune up this week.

 

Gas tank is 11.8, IIRC. If you're hitting "full" at 8.5 gallon on fill up, you have around 2 gallons left. But why do you want to push it any further? That would only risk running out of gas or gunking up your fuel pump. I usually start looking for gas stations at half-tank.

yea i really wish i got 440 on my y8 - im lucky if i get a day and a half out of my 11.9 gallon tank. 250 isn't far off, i say between 250-300 generously. i commute about 56 miles work and 56 home..and if i go out after work another 20-40 miles per day. so almost 150-160 miles per day, so just about a day and a half per fill and even so i fill up when gauge reads 1/4=(

I'm getting 430+ to a tank on the highway (if it is indeed 11.8 gallons like that fella said).

I'm getting between 32-38mpg. 36 at 80mph in the summer w/ the AC on.

Don't judge your gas mileage by "how much you're getting per tank" - actually calculate it, as in, fill it up, reset your odometer, drive it for however long, go back to the gas station, fill it up again. Then take the number of miles traveled, and divide out the number of gallons you put in your tank, this will give you an ACCURATE MPG rating.

This whole "I estimate X per tank" is a joke and a half - reading what your trip meter says when you decide your gas gauge points to empty is as inaccurate as shooting a gun blindfolded...

 

what i mean by pushing it is so i know mileage wise how far i can go, so in case my gauge stops workin i kno for reassurance. it happened with my crx so its kinda a habit for me. i usually fill up in my crx when i have 1/4 tank left. so ill try on this tank of gas and see if i can push it to about 300. thanks ill keep everyone updated.

on my crx i only get about 225 but that is with a swapped motor. so thats y i assumed the tanks were the same size. thanks again.

 

dammmmn - im gonna seriously look to doing what you said cause i dont know if ive ever gotten over 300miles to a tank

 

i've had 425 on ten gallons in my DX coupe w/ I.H.E. running on fatory size 175-70R13. that can make a huge difference.

the way to calc gallons well enough is to fill up, run till your light comes on then fill up again. whatever you put in is what you just used. (those read-outs at the pump better be accurate, you're paying for it!) set your trip when you fill up the first time then divide when you get total gallons and total distance.

with this method I most often get 35mpg mixed city highway, and on long trips on the interstate I'll usually get 40mpg and best ever was 42.5mpg.

for the OP, I would be sad with anything less than 30mpg from any model or year civic that's stock to mildly modified (I.H.E., "street" cam, ECU with a good tune...). that includes city mileage.

there are plenty of threads on what you can do for good mileage, but you should already know the drill if you are concerned with what you're getting: tire pressure, fresh oil, good plugs, good wires, a clean air filter, clean out your trunk and back seat... this list goes on.

430+ per tank?? Who are you kidding? The Insight gets 600 per tank on a good week if at that.

 

yea but the DX is more of an economy motor isn't it? so i would assume that it should get higher mileage no matter what. i havent touched the car other than replacing the Ebay intake with an AEM short ram and now my stock intake. i know this week im gonna do the normal cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc. tune up. thats why i was asking so i can see what im supposed to hit. i want to see what im getting now and then after the tune up. thanks for the input

 

I also have to join teh 400 club.
I got about 450 miles in my CRX w/ my Y8.

This was mostly Highway miles. I drove from
MOrgantown, WV 26505 to Columbus, OH on friday night. Got there drove around all night wiht my friends, and then drove back on sunday night with One tank of gas (11.8 gallons).

but yes thats mostly highway miles. In city i get abot 370-400 miles a tank.

 

Y8head y7 block using Y7 injectors and ecu gettin 34 MPG ... around 330 or so? when the light goes on and i never fill over 10 gals. also cracked exh mani

Ehh I need to try it again I know I get about 330 to a tank in my 95 d16z6

 

my b16 coupe gets right around 300 give or take a few with some spirtied driving here and there

 

380-420 full tank on '97 Vtec-E ftw!!!! I would believe teh stock DX's but EX's....you must be granny-ing. Also for those CRX's...an old man I wanted to buy a CRX from mentioned his '91 CRX AUTOMATIC got 40 mpg country roads + highway!!! amazing civics....
