Default Oil Problem in my 98 teg

I was driving the other day in my car and all of a sudden i see the oil light come on in my gauge cluster. I pull over and i stop the car and check the dipstick and i come to see that it is bone dry. I walk to the nearest autoparts store (becuase it was on a sunday and no mechanic is open on sunday) to buy some oil and i put it in... i go to see my friend who is a Honda expert to see what the problem is and he was stumped... the car is not smoking white even under the highest RPM and there is no visible leak of oil coming from the car. What can be happening?!

Well it obviously didn't magicaly dry up.

It has to either be burnt or leaked.

Were you driving your car hard?

I agree, if it's not leaking it out, it's burning it.....

blue smoke = oil

White smoke = coolant

black smoke = gas (too much)

If you are seeing white smoke, maybe your oil is leaking into the coolant system. This is unlikely b/c coolant would normally end up in the oil pan as well.

i am not seeing any kind of smoke. and i can not see any oil leaking from anywhere. This is what u call a fortune cookie mystery. I can not see a leak and no smoke is coming from the exhaust even at high rpm... the car only has 109,xxx miles on it.

There are such things as "thermal leaks". This is when a seal is going bad, and has small cuts in it. However, it holds until it gets too hot.

I would make sure it has enough oil, then allow your car to warm up. Rev it up a little, checking for leaks the whole time.

First thing to check with an oil leak, is your oil filter.

cause if your not burning anything, i would replace the oil pan gasket, or check the drain bolt on the pan

STFU. That is the dumbest thing I've ever herd. If it needs replaced, you should see a big puddle of oil.

I would check the drain plug however, but that also would allow oil to leak out at any time.

just because he doesn't see the smoke doesn't mean it's not burning

You just gotta give the IM box the full 5 mins to load for the send button to work.

How quick does the oil "vanish" Is it like a quart a day/week/month? It wouldnt hurt to try a compression check and make sure your numbers are good.
