Default My engine is acting up and my check engine light is on can u help me?

ok long story short.
i bought my clean title car
everything original except the seats.
1.5 engine with 4 speed tranny.
for 620 bucks.
here are some pics before i used 4 spray cans to paint it.

ok so here is my problem i took this off
and cleaned really good to improve the performance of it.
and the plastic spacer under it i shaved the hole bigger for more air and then i put everything back and then my check engine light came on which it wasnt before.
its not the throttle cable. and i checked the fuel injetor sensors and they seem to b fine so im confused. when im at a stop sometimes its too accelerated and sometimes too low that it turns off. the computer reads 6 17 or 7 16 i forgot but i know its one of those. can some one please help me? thanks

Find out which code you actually have and maybe we'll be able to help. I would guess it's 7 and 16, 16 being Fuel Injectors. I forget which one 7 is. I would be willing to guess you may well have hooked the sensors back up wrong.

Have you tried consulting the Helms manual?

Oh and PS - You're not going to make power on DPFI, you're far better off swapping to MPFI. It's cheap and not that hard.

code 7 is the TPS sensor, code 16 is the fuel injectors. Both of which are on the intake mani. you messed one of them up.

i didnt put them backwards the green one on the bottom and the brown one on top.
and i do want to change it to non carb but i cant find one. i hear all fuel injection saves you a lil more on gas.

what do you mean non carb. The engine you have there is not carburated. its Fuel injected.

Damn. That is just about sig worthy right there.....but alas, I cannot.

It is ALL fuel injection. And it will not be beaten in mileage.

But if you want more power for cheap, then switch to the MPFI setup.

Wait, can you hear that?

choo choo

Its the ignorance train coming to spoon feed you!

There is ample information on wiring the MPFI in the FAQ, with links and pictures. Its all over the web, as has been said, a google search will reveal wonders to you.

those are your problems... Try resetting the ecu (disconnect the battery for a wee bit) and see if it goes away.

If it doesn't then ither A)replace the sensors or check them. B)Get another DP intakemanifold with the sensors and dont mess with it. C)Just do the MPFI conversion.

So good luck

Code 7 - Throttle Position/Angle Sensor

TPS sensor input is used to determine when the throttle is:

Idle
Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
Rapid Movement
During these conditions the ECU makes changes to the injector Pulse Width (PW).
The PW is widen slightly when the throttle initially goes to idle. Within a few seconds the O2 sensor will correct the mixture.

Closed Throttle Input (under .5V), engine RPM is above 1100, engine is warm. The fuel injectors will be shut-off (used to conserve fuel). Peeps with A/F Ratio Meters will see this happen, when the gauge drops to full lean, or no reading at all.

When Wide Open Throttle is detected the PW is increased above normal fuel delivery. This is also known as "Open Loop" operation, when the ECU ignores the output from the O2 sensor.

With Rapid Throttle Opening the ECU is watching the TPS input voltage for rapid changes. A sudden rise in the voltage would mean the throttle was opened quickly. So the ECU would increase the PW momentarily. As soon as the MAP sensor senses the drop in vacuum, it will take over.

Testing - With the Key On, Engine Off hook up a voltmeter to the TPS. @ idle (closed throttle), voltage should be close to .5V and @ WOT (Wide Open Throttle) voltage should be 4.5V.

The best way to adjust the TPS voltage is @ idle (closed throttle). While Key On, Engine Off, hook up voltmeter between the yel/wht & grn/wht and observe reading. If it needs to be adjusted, loosen the TPS mounting and move the TPS until voltmeter reads close to .5V. The check engine light will let you know immediately whether you missed up or not.

TPS Sensor Wires:

1 Red/Blue
1 Green/White
1 Yellow/White
