Default clutch noise.

There is a weird sorta scraping noise when the clutch pedal is up.

When I push it down it goes away completely.

Any idea what it is?

Thanks.

Car is a 2000 civic ex. EJ8 with stock clutch.

throw out bearing would only make noise when clutch pedal is down. bearing in the tranny makes sense though.

First of all.
Sorry for reviving.
But I DID find this by SEARCHING!

Anyway...I have the same problem.
Clutch is up so that means throwout bearing in transmission.
So does that technically mean I need a new transmission?

no, the t/o bearing is actually located on the clutch. however i would upgrade the clutch/flywheel while u have the tranny off.

Cool. Is it expensive?

I'll look through my Haynes manual and find exactly where it is. Works wonders by the way. Who ever doesn't have one...get one. About $20. Mine was $17 at Autozone.

I should replace the clutch AND flywheel? Haven't got the tranny off but I guess I should do it anyway.

Thanks Kurly.

You dont have to i would though since youll have to take the tranny off.

with a decent clutch, flywheel i would think no more than $300 (could be wrong)

when my old gsr hatch's t/o bearing went out (along with the death of my tanny) i bought another gsr tranny, l/w flywheel & a stage 3 clutch. pulled so f*cking hard haha

Sorry to burst your fun, happy bubble but its most likely your Input Shaft bearing.. Which means you buying a new clutch/flywheel setup is a waste of time. These bearings are notorious in honda trannies for taking a dump..In order to replace this 15 dollar bearing you have to completely disassemble the trans. So before you go buying just the clutch/flywheel which is a good idea while the trans is off anyway, i would also buy the bearing and read up on how to replace it. GL

Which problem?
The throwout bearing?
Or...
The input shaft bearing as jdeemseerx said?
