Default 2007 Passenger Air Bag...

My wife has a 2007 Accord EX 4 door, and I'm wanting some input on how the passenger side airbag works (or how it's supposed to work).

I've never had a car with the second-gen airbags, so I'm wondering if there's a problem with her car. I used to work at Best Buy doing installs, and a majority of the cars that I can remember had "Passenger Airbag Off" lights that stayed illuminated when there's no one in the passenger seat.

In my wife's car, the light illuminates, then goes out (self tests as it should), but it does this even when there's no one in the passenger seat.

Is this normal? I haven't looked in the manual for the car, but I was hoping someone could tell me if the "Off" light should stay on when there's no one in the passenger seat.

Consult your owners manual for confirmation, but I believe the "off" light will only iluminate if there is weight on the passenger seat and not on the seat back, indicating a potential occupant is out of position and could be harmed by an airbag deployment.

Hmmm... Makes sense... Never thought about the seat back... I'll have to brave the cold and run out & get the manual tonight...

Thanks for the input!

That is pretty much it.
