idle quesiton
ok so lately my car has been idleing at very low rpm's.
when i start my car it it wll idle at around 2k then will go down to almost 200, when i drive for a sec then stop it will fluctuate between 200-500.
is this normal maybe because of the weather? i have looked at the coolent and nothing is leaking. i know there is some kind of sensor that controls the idle but do not know what or where it is located.

Does it idle fine when cold & when the h22 is warmed up at normal operating temperature it begins to idle erratically or just idle low? Has it cut off on you or bog out when your in neutral say at a stoplight or stop sign? Could be your "tps" sensor - throttle position sensor or "iac" valve - idle air control valve or even "map sensor". Hope this helps I had the same sorta problem with my prelude in the past. Ended up being my tps sensor.
it just idles really low. sometimes when i am sittig at a ligt for awhile it will start to sound like it is going to cut out but then just revs back up to about 500. that is the fluctuating i am speaking of. how will i know if one of these are bad?

my 4th gen does the same thing i have been trying to figure that crap out for like a year.i have checked everything tps,iac,map and replaced the ecu. it sucks. if u figure it out tell me what u did. and ill do the same.. i am starting to think it might be my vafc.

1). Buy a Volt meter
2). Turn ignition switch on (do not start engine)
3). Black volt meter probe to ground.
4). Red volt meter probe to the middle terminal on the TPS. You can either stick a paper clip into the harness, or use a knive to nick some insulation off the middle wire. (wrap with elec tape when done) I can't remember what color the wire is, but it is the one in the middle.
5). Look at the volt meter when throttle is closed (idle). The voltage should be .45-.5 volts.
6). Open the throttle to wide open. Look at volt meter. It should read 4.5-5 Volts.
7). If the voltages are correct, you do not have a problem with your TPS.
8). If voltages are no where near these specified voltages, replace TPS.
9). If voltages are close, TPS can be rotated slightly to correct the voltage.

thank you vlang29 i ill be doing this within the next week hopefully and i wil get back to you ad let you know if that is the problem or not.

TPS is the little black sensor on side of the throttle body. (side facing firewall)

</TD></TR></TABLE>, Please don't instruct others to do somewhat stupid things that potentially are damaging to their cars. Then he nicks the wire aswell and due to less cross sectional area of the wire, its resistance goes up and therefor gives a different reading to the ecu. Or what if he nicks two and create a short. It would be best to just use zero resistance jumper wires and measure off them.

if you cant fix the proble, try a temporary fix, unplugg the TPS after u warm up ur car, it would run normal until you replace the TPS, thats how my car is runing but im about to replace the TPS. hope it helps, it worked for me,.

My apologies, i guess i just thought common sense would take over in such a situation. then again, i'm an electrician so what's common sense to me, might not be to others. sorry

Figured mine out.
I have a Hondata ECU, the basic map for fuel trim that it supplys for the Prelude was wrong. It reads:
Stock Fuel Injectors : 310cc
Current Fuel Injectors : 450cc
I'm not sure what the exact size of stock fuel injectors are for a JDM H22, but I changed it to 310, and it didn't run right when the VTEC kicked in. Started to jerk. Not good. So I did some research, and the closest thing I found was 340cc. That seemed to help alot. Still isn't running right, but it's damn close.
