Default Green light eye?

Has anybody ever rigged a sensor that senses when the tree turns green and automatically releases the trans brake? I asking for a buddy of mine that does alot of muscle car drag racing. He recently went to a event where he was sure these 2 other competitors were cheating. He said they nailed perfect lights every time. I have no idea where to start looking at so any help would be appreciated.

They were probably using Delay Boxes which is not cheating if they are allowed in that class. Best way to cut a good light is practice practice practice. Cutting a light on a sportsman tree and cutting a light on a pro tree are two completely different things as well.

Yeah Im sorry it detects the yellow and then releases at the right time and whats a blinder? I think he said that it wasnt a delay box because dont you have to hit a button on those at the right time, as you can see Im really out of my element. Ive been drag racing a few times but never at his level.

delay boxes are used to make faster cars hit a slower dial in. hence a 7 sec dragster in super comp classes ( 8.90 dial in ) basically "delay" the car for a previously entered amount of time in order to hit the 8.90.

Not really used for launching. Now there are also launch controls that you can use that do delay the release of the trans brake. On my dads comp elim car , his driver is actually a little too fast for the lights and used to red light all the time so you can actually make the button on the steering wheel a little less sensitive , there for not react as fast as it is released.

But neither of these are sensors for when the lights drop. Actually have never heard of anything like that- doesnt mean it doesnt exist though. But i would imagine if a driver hit nothing but .000 lights then someone would be questioning

Any kind of sencors that pick up lights or detect lights are CHEATING. Like it was said above, they might have been using a delay box. It is simply a box that allows you to release a button whenever you want to leave the starting line. So you can set it up so you release the button on the first yellow (or whenever you want) and the car does not move. It sits there for a pre-determined amount of time (say 1.07 seconds) and theoratically leaves with a perfect .000 light. You can adjust the pre-determined delay for either more or less depending on what your reation time is.
So if you let go of the button on the first yellow and have a 1.07 delay in the box and your reaction time is a .020, then you might want to lessen the delay to 1.00 and try to get it down around a .010. Or if you red light, just add some delay into the box. All part of the bracket racing game.

But it is very possible to cut .000 lights without cheating. Takes practice, luck, more practice, skill and a lot more luck. Some days people are just on their game. One day I had a .000 light in first AND second round, .002 in the third round, and then went red in the 4th. .000 is just to close for most.

As far as a blinder, that is a simple tool used by a few bracket racers. Basically it can be anything from a piece of cardboard, to a towel draped over the sun visor..anything really......that you put up so when you stage the car, you block out the top two yellow lights and expose only the third yellowlight. This way people do not watch or follow (and antacipate) that third yellow light coming on and just re act to that last bulb. Again, part of the bracket racing game that takes time and practice to get used to and perfect.

I understand the delay box but its still up to the driver to release that button at the perfect time but I was thinking there would be more info out there on these sensors. Thanks for all the info.
