Turning CRX into a show car....
Well not really but still in the process of making it look better.
Started the day out swapping gauge clusters to get rid of the ricey white one that was in there.
Then a few friends came over and helped get it ready for paint.
First thing we have to do is get rid of the ricetascit rear bumper that someone thought looked good.
Notice the uncracked center taillight section in this pic.

Out with the old...in with the new. But first lets spray some primer on the rusted out rear bumper support.

And new bumper is on and the car is taped up and a lot of it sanded.

Also decided to try and "do it right" so we removed the headlights, corner lights, and bumper lights.

I also bondoed up my 2 random screw holes that someone had put in the lower quarter panels.
Tomorrow will finish up the sanding, and get out the spray paint.
If anyone has any painting tips feel free to give them to me now. This will be 100% rattle can. I am using satin black tractor paint.

hahaha i rattle canned my crx with the rustolium sunrise red. and used caned clear also.. it turned out great for a rattle can ive evan had some people compliment it then after telling them it was a rattle can there like wtf.. but anyway if your useing a can spray down a decent base coat then sand lightly and respray it will take care of all the blotches.. if my mpt worked id post pics lots of them. but just go slow and take your time should take about an hour and ahalf to spray the whole car by hand and can.. so good luck.

Took it outside today to wash it off and wetsand it. I ended up having to retape the windshield. I then washed out the garage floor and pulled the crx back in and left it to dry. The tractor paint I had sucked ***** when I tried it out on my spare panel. It didnt dry for **** and was very glossy. I went and bought some more ultra flat black spray paint and that did the trick.
The friends came back over and we wiped down the car with paint thinner. Then took a tack cloth to the whole thing and then started painting.

And one of my bondoed up screw holes

After several cotes of paint. Prob 5.

And we might as well make the jams look good while we are at it.

It started getting pretty cold so we called it quits.
Overall I am very pleased for it being a rattle can job. I am going to try to spray another coat on the hood to even it out tomorrow. The hood and the roof still seem kinda blotchy. It was getting too cold to jack with it though.
More pics as they come.

Looks like you took your time and done the proper prep.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Krylon ultra flat black.
I originally bought some satin black tractor paint on a recommendation of a friend. After trying it on a test panel I hated it. It turned out to be pretty glossy, didnt dry for crap, and was hard to spray. Very very thing. I figured I would go with the krylon since I knew how it sprayed.

Went out today and added about 3.5 more cans of paint to it. I got the hood fixed and all of the tiger stripe area's fixed. For being a rattle can job I give it a 9 out of a 10.
I plan to untape it tomorrow and get all the lights back in it.

Wow, for the last few days I've avoided clicking this thread because the title made me roll my eyes, but it turns out you are doing a pretty nice job of restoring it.
I might be wrong on this, but I THINK taking the hood off and standing it up on its side to spray it will help with getting rid of the splotches.
Keep it up!

Untaped and pulled out of the garage.

Everything installed.

Glass and trim cleaned. Wanted to see it under different lighting so I went to the car wash. I DID NOT WASH THE CAR I ONLY USED THE LIGHTING.

And here are some from a few months ago...this was like the first week I had it.

"This will be 100% rattle can"
show car?

the 88-89 body, moldings, rear bumper, corner lights etc do not flow very well with that mismatched 90-91 front bumper.

It isn't really a "show car" That was sarcasm.
This is only my winter beater to keep this parked in the garage and out of the elements.

why keep the gto out of the elements? if i had a gto i would not be wanting to drive a b16 crx and i would be using my investment not garaging it. but none the less the crx is clean. blacked out is always nice.

Bought it new in 04. First new car I have ever owned. To date it has never been drove in snow and I plan to keep it that way.
Take this as you will, but I plan to keep this car for a very long time. I have uncles who were alive in the 60's and always talk about the cars they had that they should have kept. To me this is that car. I plan to keep it in the best shape I can and when it is paid off in 23 more months retiring it.
I do not consider the GTO an investment, I consider it a toy that I do not want to play with in the snow or ice.
I have went through 5 beater cars since I have owned the GTO. So far I have managed to sell each one for more than what I had in it.
