After two years, I finally got Kimini on a dyno to see "what's what." With the USDM stock H22A1 outputting 190hp at the crank, I expected about 170whp. I was very surprised when it produced the numbers below on a SuperFlow dyno.

I guess it's due to the header, exhaust, and custom intake. The only accessary is the alternator, so no PS, PB, smog pump, or A/C. Pretty darn happy for a stock-internals Prelude engine and a stock P13 ECU. So finally, here's my "street 'cred".

So how many million HP per ton is that?

 

Wow not bad!! and this is a U.S. spec A1 you said!!! Keeps giving me hope my JDM makes decent power!!

Eh, sure. 1.625" diameter primaries, 32" long. 2.5" collector into a big Dynomax muffler.

That's what I was thinking. It isn't dropping off much, which seems to argue for installing better valve springs and letting it go another 500rpm or so. Then again, I'm telling myself I'm not going to mess with it.

It works out to 237hp/ton.

 

You could probably get away with 8,000RPM on a stock engine. I managed to do it here and there. With a nice header (and a big dynomax muffler) my motor was also carrying enough power to make shifting that high reasonable, at least in any relatively low gear.

If you drop in some valvesprings you might as well drop in some cams as well

Thanks, unfortunately this was on a internal-use only dyno (non-public). While they have the ability to measure A/F, they didn't offer it us. Something about the fact that the runs were free... Since I'm using a stock P13 ECU I wouldn't be able to tune it anyway, but I know what you mean. It still would have been nice to see where it was.

Where's the Prelude dyno thread? Or is it one big-*** thread for all Hondas?

Did you get to chat with Shinoo much? I think that it would have been very interesting comparing the ride in 2 different light weight cars. I met him last October, he's pretty enthusiastic about light cars.

Yes I talked to Shinoo Saturday. I assume you recognized the Atom as his? He has lots of cool stuff for the Elise, that's for sure. I teased him when I saw him looking at the Viper block, asking him if he was offended to look at something so heavy. He said he'd someday own a car "with many cylinders."

Since you've done everything else yourself, it's time to put a chipped p28, wideband, and ostrich in there and tune out that midrange slump!

Those Viper blocks might be heavy but Shioo is so small that overall, it might not make a difference in the end. He can barely see over the dash as it is. lol
