my 99 civic with a b16a2 when i bought it a valve cover stud was broke and when i went to replace it i realized it was broken in the head. am I gonna have to take the head off to get it machined out or is there another way it doesn't seem to drive bad or anything it just bothers me that there is a whole when the spark plug cover is off

please help

 

try an ez out...they may work

 

no don't remove the head, use an ez out or drill it out and tap in a new tread. When mine snapped I reached in and turned it out with my fingers. If its spitting oil everywhere, change it quick, you don't want to run these motors too low on oil, every time you redline it, the oil is literally spraying out of the leak. If it barely leaks and is just making a small mess, you can drive it just watch the oil level. Honda/Acura engines have many small, intricate parts that need oiled properly. This means that when the motors cold, the oil hasn't pumped up into the head therefore not properly oiling these intricate VTEC parts. Also never rev these motors past 3,000 rpms intil the engine is properly warmed up and you will never have any oil burning problems. This refers to all honda motors that have open-decked blocks

The ez out has come in handy many a time for me lol If its a valve cover stud that is snapped, im pretty sure ez outting it will work

So true. I have been doing this very thing for years and it is especially important this time of year in the North when it gets arctic cold at night. I also change my oil a little sooner than I normally would in warm temps. Cold temps are considered an "extreme condition".
