Default Help with Thermostat

Okay, I discovered by B18C5 has no thermostat. I installed one today and the temperature starts approaching 103degC. It use to be at 94C and the fan kicks in and brings it down to 90C. Now it just keeps going up up up, the fan kicks in at 94C and remains on all the way. I dare not let it go higher than 103C so I turn it off. I just removed the thermostat and all is fine. What is going on here?

I forgot to mention, I placed the thermostat in a pot of water and boiled the water over a stove. It opened slowly and completely opened when the water started boiling. Can a thermostat be faulty by not opening up when it is supposed to at a specific temperature? Or does a bad one stay closed completely? The one I got is marked NTCL 78degC.

Did you "bleed" the cooling system after the install? Might have some air trapped in there.

Funny that you mention boiling the thermo. My coolant wasn't getting up to full temps esp on cold days. So I switched the thermo out no issues there, and the car works fine now. But the old thermo appeared to be fine, so I put it in some water and heated it up. I used a thermo to watch temps, it opened up at the correct temp and appeared to close at the correct temp.

Just cause it appears good in the pot doesn't mean it will always work in the car is what im getting at.

I did not bleed the system after the install. But that should not be an issue since the bubbles will self remove from the radiator with the cap off during the warming up?

citurs3000psi, your car was not getting up to temps would mean that your thermostat was not closing but remained open. My problem appears to be the reverse, but not in the pot of boiling water. But I do agree that sometimes it could be a faulty thermo. The problem would be convincing the part dealer that the thermo is faulty considering it works in boiling water.
