Derek Daly to help design a 3.2 Mile road course. Merced, Ca!!!
How did I not know about this sooner?

Derek Daly, a regular Formula 1 driver in the early 1980s, has worked in recent years as a TV pundit and racing school owner, based in Las Vegas, Nevada. He decided last year to launch a new business called Derek Daly Design, to design race tracks for customers across the United States, in partnership with Paxton Waters Architecture. Daly is already involved in two projects: the Riverside Motorsports Park which is planned in Merced, about 100 miles to the south-east of San Francisco, in California. Daly will work on the design of a 3.2-mile road course, which will be based on the layout of the original Riverside International Raceway, a track near Los Angeles which closed in 1988. Work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008 and will include an oval speedway for stock car and open wheel racing, a drag strip, kart course, motocross course, dirt oval, two high-banked short-track ovals and an off-road course, in addition there will be a motorsport business park. Daly is also working on the development of a track at the Bluegrass Motorsports Club, which is to be built on 500-acres of land in northern Kentucky, one of a number of motorsport country clubs that are being built in the United States at the moment.

Yeah, they've been working on getting the raceway approved since 2003.
Here is the link to the official raceway website:

I'm surprised it's so close to Buttonwillow and Laguna. It is cool that they're making it like the old Riverside track... I still miss it. Of course, if they're copying it, what's Daly actually doing?
From what I have read, Merced will be based off of Riverside. So, it will be similar, but obviously different.
Either way, this is awesome news for us in Northern California! They say this is supposed to be the biggest motorsports complex in the U.S.!

Construction has already started on it. A friend of mine lives in Atwater and was telling me that the track is visible from were he lives. He had asked me a month or so ago if i new about the track that was going in down there and that they had started construction on it some time ago.
Ill see if he can shoot some pictures of what is going on.

how many millions will this facility cost?
we're in the process of "building" something similar here but already spent 7+ million
we have a big parking lot, a temporary drag strip, and motorcross course
proposed is a road course, road oval, kart course, dirt oval, motorcros course, off road course, drag strip, pits, etc
just wondering what the going cost for something lie this is to build

If you read the website, you'll see that just the site plan and review, which goes over every single electric outlet, water outlet, design, etc is ~$5 million by itself, maybe ~$30m including the land purchase?

I'm seriously considering applying for the Director of Safety (Risk Management) and getting out of Healthcare Compliance and Risk Management. That would be a dream! But...I've lived in Turlock/Modesto and the Central Valley stinks.
for another Nor Cal track. I'll NEVER leave California!

RMP welcomes Rusty Wallace, Derek Daly and Boris Said to the design team!
Interesting, looks like Boris is working on the Kart track, I know that he owns a karting place in SoCal.
Looks like their "financial program" is ~$250 million.

I didn't know he owned K1. I know he's from Carlbad, where the first K1 is located. I heard Ben Ma (formerly of Group 5, not sure if he's still with AEBS) was a co-owner of K1 but I'm not sure if it's the whole company or just the Carlsbad location.
I was the Carlsbad K1 one time and both Ben Ma and Eddie (under uh)Cheever were there.
