Default Question about Hatch Civics

Due to recent trouble economic times, I may have to sell my Integra GSR. So I've been lookin into the possibility of purchasing a 96+ civic hatch. Now I don't want flames from you guys cause I don't know **** about hatches and the motors their running. So here's my question. What's the stongest motor Civic hatches come stock with, I think it's like a 1.6 SOCH, with 106 hp. Do they come in vtec? And last give me your opinions about your ultimate dream modification to a hatch. I would believe it's the set up that was featured in the March 2002 SportCompactCar magazine, you know the silver spoon one.

So any commits or suggestions would be great.

Alex

no vtec, 106 hp sounds right, not to slow though, w/ a few mods. Most here will say don't mod, just swap, but....they can be relatively quick w/o swap.
Good bang for the buck, if money's tight.

No VTEC. 1996-2000 CX/DX - Horsepower: 106hp @ 6200 rpm - Torque: 103ft-lbs. @ 4600

I personally like the 1992-1995 hatchs more (something about the those tall tailights i cant stand). If you go this route you can get a SI with 125hp @ 6600 rpm & 106ft-lbs. @ 5200 rpm.

I recently took a step in the same direction you're thinking of, moving from an Integra GS-R to a Civic hatch. Driving around town at low speeds, the Civic feels very good because it's much lighter. However, at highway speeds when wind resistance takes over, you're going to miss the horsepower.

If you're keeping it stock, the Si hatch is what you want. Everything else will be intolerably slow since you're used to GS-R acceleration.

96's and above didn't come with vtec, but you can have fun with the tall gears
my goal is to swap a gsr or a itr engine, but for now, my little 1.6 SOHC gets me around.

wow, a new switch for a bunch of people.
I just sold my GSR sedan and now have a hatch. a 92 cx that I found for $2000. that left me a lot of room for mods and insurance was a bit cheaper, not much though. I am extremely happy too, evenmy roommate has a new '00 hatchg and loves it more than he liked driving my GSR sedan that was tricked out. The hatch's motors are fine but a B series swap will give you all the power you miss from your teg... even a LS swap would be a great budget setup in a EK hatch.
nice thing about EK's is their paint is in much better condition than most EG's.

good luck! I say viva la hatchy!

LOL, I've never looked into doing a swap, but it's something that would interest me, so how do you even aquire a gsr or itr engine. Do you just call up a dealership and say uh yeah do you have any itr or gsr engines in stock . Go to any Acura or Honda dealership and all the old men in there that don't know **** about there products will say uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu
