can i have different brand front and rear tires?
I have a 1990 Yamaha FZR 600. My question is, the only rear tire that I can find is a Bridgestone BT014 (recommended BT010 by the forums, but the BT014 replaced them), but for the front tire, I have a choice of Dunlop Qualifiers, Metzler M1, Pilot Powers...
Since people have been raving about how great Pilot Powers are, how bad is it to have a 110/70/17 Pilot Power front tire, with a 150/60/18 Bridgestone BT014 Rear Tire.
Or should I just get both front and rear Bridgestone BT014 to play it safe.

Thanks.

The biggest reason people get same front and rear tires is because all tires have different shapes. And when a manufacturer designs their tires, their shaped a certain way and are designed to compliment eachother. You can have a rear tire that turns in too sharp and a front one that is hard to turn or vise versa and you might have negative handling geometry. There's also a chance that I could be talking out of my ***.

Haha, we all do that sometimes.
In all honesty, get tires as close to matching as you can. Tire profiles are different, some more aggressive, others less, etc. Unless you're going to be pushing the bike hard in the twisties or on a track, it's not going to matter a whole lot.
I wish I could be more helpful

another option would be to convert to a 17 rear wheel, run a tire that has a fairly tall profile and you would have a much broader tire selection.
this is gonna get the purists among us goin lol, but ive seen several of them done this way, mostly track bikes, ive not heard any negative feed back and im assuming sice these guys show up all season like that it must be workin for em.
