I've towed my tire trailer about 3000 miles with my AP1. No problems at all, and I'm using a custom Coughlin Invisible Hitch. It mounts to the impact beam behind the rear bumper cover, behind the license plate. You remove the plate to insert the receiver, which then carries the plate. With the receiver off, there's only 2 lbs on the body and you can't see it at all.
I'm running the typical 40x48 Harbor Freight Trailer, and my towing weight with wheels, tires, tools, etc is about 300lbs. Tongue weight is only about 50 lbs according to a bathroom scale. I connect the safety chains to the eye bolt.
In driving, I honestly can't tell its even there, except for some rattling over bumps. The car is a little more sluggish in 6th gear, but I'm not exactly in a hurry with it. It tracks fine, and I've had it up to 95mph. Others with a similar setup say it's good at 125mph too (whatever). The car does have to work a bit harder though, and I lose about 4 mpg on the highway (still 23-25 mpg overall). When cruising over flat land, there's almost no hit in fuel economy according to my Scan Gauge II, but small grades make a bigger impact while towing. I'll often have a passenger and trunk full of gear, so I'm probably carrying 400lbs in the vehicle and pulling another 300lbs of trailer. No problems.
I know 4 others who tow with their AP1s and none have any issues even on 500 mile trips. I don't know about AP2s though: nobody I know tows with an AP2 (maybe too weak...or they just aren't competitive enough bother towing race rubber around).
Funniest moment while towing was when I smoked a buddy in his D-series Civic (bolt ons) from a slow roll with a full trailer and a passenger. He told me later that was pretty embarrassing.

This sounds VERY interesting. Do you have more information or pictures on this? All the hitches I've seen are pretty odd looking and stick way out under the bottom of the car. This is my DD and sometimes I need to carry more than can fit in the trunk/passenger seat.
I'm off to look at Harbor Freight's website now, as there's a store about 40 minutes from me.
EDIT: Just looked at the website, and it looks like they have some nice trailers (all sizes). I just can't find any information about this "Invisible Coughlin Hitch." I see a website about some auto sales group in Ohio, is that it? More info please!
