Default loss of power

yesterday i was on the way home from work cruisin between 75 and 80 when my car lost power and started to bog so i let off the gas, got back on and it was fine for 2-3 seconds and bogged again, backfired, power came back for another 2-3 seconds. i put in the clutch kept the revs up for a second, let off and the car just died. i'm thinking either something inside the coil or my killswitch shorted out and broke the connection. let me know what you guys think. thanks

First thing I would check is the rotor in the dizzy. Sometimes the screw comes loose and falls out.
