Default Transmission nosies from my 03 LX

I have been noticing a noise comming from just under the the shift handle cover (with the P-R-N-D printed on it) it is a weird grinding nosie. Almost like someone tapping their finger nails on it. It only happens after i start the car and its in park. Also, the button on the shifter was locked up the other night. I pushed the brake all the way in with a little force and still no go. I had to turn off the car, put my key in the slot, put it in neutral then start the car. Could these be linked?? Thanks for any info guys.

Yeah, the tapping noise could be the shift-lock solenoid pulling in & out for no good reason. It's supposed to click when you step on the brake & it unlocks the shift lever.

Next time the shift lever is locked, check to see whether your brake lights in back are working. A flaky switch down at the brake pedal can mess up both the brake lights & the shift lock.
