For "Invincible" Drivers...namely jersey drivers

this is why its a bad idea to run red lights and try to cut off 18 wheelers hauling tons of stuff.
i got to drive by this 2 days ago on my way home from work...my stepfather was in the 18 wheeler and watches people cut him off, as well as other truck drivers, all day long. well this guy wasnt too lucky after he smashed the front of the truck, the center median, a green 2000 ex coupe (poor civic), and then hit the back of the trailer.
think twice before you do **** like this, person had multiple compound fractures, or broken bones that break through the skin, and they had to use the "jaws of life" to cut the roof off the car to get the dude out.
just thought id post this as a reminder to respect the rules of the road.
if this is in the wrong forum, sorry. to me its a good idea to post this in this high traffic forum.

Damn... I cant see the pics (at work), but I can imagine what would happen with a vehicle with that much weight/momentum slams into one of our lil econboxes.
This is why my car only hits 3k rpms and barely 70mph on the freeway. I take my time to get where I am going... driving 5-10mph faster doesnt get you anywhere quicker.
I left my ex's work place once 5 minutes ahead of her and was doing 10mph more than she was an only arrived about 45 seconds faster than her. Point proven lol

hahaha what happened to "IFPWIGH"???
yea man, it was an absolutely awful sight that i wish i didn't see, the only reason i turned around cause it was my stepfather was driving the truck and went to make sure he was ok.
ALSO: i have 2 more pics of the car if anyone wants me to upload them i will.

Reminds me of an accident I once witnessed. Woman was in a left turn lane, stopped to let traffic turn, when a very small gap opened in oncoming traffic. She proceeded to slowwwwwwwwwwly take her left turn and got t-boned.
It was in a 50mph zone so the oncoming traffic was probably doing 60-65, and while they obviously braked there's no way you're going to haul a Taurus from 60 to 0 in 30 feet.

where's the tech?!?!?!??!?!
wheres the civic? that doesn't even look like the remains of a civic.
there are accidents everyday, if everyone posted a picture of every crappy accident they saw this forum wouldn't be of much use.
this is more of something you show your elderly grandmother so she doesn't confuse the gas pedal with the brake.

I was thinking Grand Am, due to those retarded waves in the bumper.
Y'know, from that era when Pontiac ran all their models through an uglificator, where the more retarded crap they threw on the exterior of their cars, the more people bought them?

you're an idiot, and you missed the point. sounds like your just mad cause you're probably the type of driver who does that every day. btw, he never said it was a civic. read the damn post before you reply.
well thats what u get for drivin like a maniac...i hate being around 18 wheelers and i def dont cut those big things off, and i slow down when the light turns yellow, not try to beat the light...
the civic got hit on the drivers side and rear quarter panel..not much damage compared to that other car - the car was actually an 89-90 corolla - i know there isn't tech, i clearly stated that i know this is in the wrong forum but its a good reminder for everyone.

Stop resorting to your days of high school when you were an immature kid and take it slow on the road for not only yourself, but for other drivers on the road (For those of you who still drive like jackasses trying to race everyone). Driving 15mph's over the speed limit isn't going to cut down a significant amount of time off your drive to your destination.

Nonsense. The longer the distance you drive, the greater the difference in time.
If I drive from home to work in the morning, I generally get stuck doing 5-10 under the limit due to yahoos and idiots. The drive takes 45-60 minutes.
When I drive back in the wee hours of the night, I do 8-10 over the limit, due to the roads being deserted. The drive takes 20-25 minutes.
On short trips exceeding the limit has very little gain, yes. But the longer the trip, the greater the gain. Cross country travel at 55mph vs 65mph can add up to hours of difference in travel time.

Say the speed limit is 60mph, you need to be doing 120mph to cut your time down in half. Going 90mph (150% of the speed limit) will only get you there in 3/4 the time.
So say you got a 60mph zone - non - highway, and you do 90mph the whole way, say it's 60miles making the original trip at 60mph 60 minutes. That'll only get you there in 45 minutes.
Furthermore, the longer the trip, the more difference it makes, and an hour is a bit on the long side, let's take a half hour, let's take 16 minutes. Say your trip is 16 minutes long, driving 90mph instead of 60 will only get you there in 12 minutes. At 120mph you'd still only get there in 8 minutes. 16 minutes? 8 minutes? You'll get yelled at by your boss either way. Rather get there alive 'n such - might work out better.
Is it really worth driving so fast? I'm not exactly one to be preaching slowing down, but when you look at the numbers, there's no way to justify "it'll get you there faster."
In any event, that's just my personal woes about that.
I laugh at people who cut off tractor trailers. You can expletive with people on the road, great, you're an *******, you proved it, many people see this crap every day. Though if there's one thing I've learned not to expletive with it's a tractor trailer.
Those things on LIGHT weight gross out at 40,000lbs on NY highways and out west gross out at close to 80,000lbs. Now physics usually doesn't come in handy but lemme put this in perspective. If I recall correctly the way to calculate lbs to kg through newtons is to divide by .2248 (this puts it in newtons), and then to divide again by 9.81 (gravity) which will give you kg.
So
40,000lbs = 18,138kg
80,000lbs = 36,276kg
Now we'll also take into account the speed of 60mph = approx. 100kph, which when you convert to M/S, let's see, 1km/1=1000m/1km, so multiply by 1000, 1/1h=1h/60, divide by 60, 1/1min=1min/60s, divide by 60, so approximately 60mph/100kph = 27.77m/s
Then you got inertia of an object which is mass * velocity.
18,138kg * 27.77m/s = 503,692kgm/s (momentum)
36,276kg * 27.77m/s = 1,007,384kgm/s (momentum)
So the momentum of a tractor tailer is usually anywhere from 504,692kgm/s - 1,007,384kgm/s..that's if it's going pretty damn slow (60mph).
Now take a civic, 2200lbs, divide .2248, divide 9.81, you get 997kg
We'll assume the same speed of 60mph, 27.77m/s.
997kg * 27.77m/s = 27,684kgm/s
For sake of ease to see I'll chop off the ones, tens, and hundreds place.
So you got the momentum of a honda civic to be roughly 28, and the tractor tailer ranges anywhere from 504 - 1007.
504 - 1007 >>>> 28
That's roughly 18 to 36 times the civic's momentum, at the same speed. That will own you.
So yeah, you can mess with a lot of things on the road, take corners too fast, cut off that jack-nuts on his cell in the mercedes...but whatever you do, don't mess with tractor trailers, you WON'T WIN. Even empty those things gross out at 18,000lbs (or in the range of). So ya, don't mess with tractor trailers, mess with a car...fine, you're a jack-***, not recommended, but whatever, mess with a tractor trailer and you'll be lucky to live.
****, of all the things I see floating around this forum I'd think think at least some of you watched 2 fast 2 furious
I can't say that would happen but the result of the mustang was pretty ******* accurate...
oh man yea, the fake saleen mustang in that movie got ran over pretty damn accurately.
way to completely put tech into this thread syndacate, i was going to explain that as well (took physics in school and they even teach it a little bit when you apply to get your drivers license in NY) but im at work and didnt want to write a novel..lol so thanks
so yea, in conclusion ladies and jellyspoons - whats worth more?? sacrificing a few minutes or sacrificing your life?? and now you know the facts, and knowing is half the battle G.I. JOE!!!
