What exactly do they do in a tune up?
I'm getting really bad gas milage out of my 89 crx si, around 200miles out of a full tank. I talk to a few people at auto zone and they just tell me to get a full tune up. NOw i've already changed all of my fluids and the spark plugs. And the o2 sensor was changed out.
What should I ask the mechanics to spacificly look for. Engine compression, firing, what else?
Or what do they usally do in a tune up?
Thanks for the help.

well, another thing to think about is this. How long has your car been operating on the same spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, and spark plug wires.
Those are items that are typically replaced in a tune-up of this nature, and they might be something that would help your vehicle with better gas mileage, and restoring lost power.
Hope that helps, check your tire pressure too all around and see if your gas mileage goes up a little as well.

Well, first of all stay away from Autozone. That place sucks and so do the parts they sell.
A "tune up" can come in a variety of ways. For fuel economy issues, I'd go with a valve adjustment, oxygen sensor, distributor cap/rotor, ignition wires, spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter (Fuel filter if you know it hasn't been done recently)
You could also get a really good injector cleaner and run that through. Or get all your injectors serviced by an injecting shop (Doctor injector in Seattle) Oil change with good oil and a respectable filter is a good plan too.
Tire pressure is a good idea as always.

I'll take a look at the distributor wires and probably gonna have to have a shop take a look at the distributor cap. I'll make sure to check my tire pressure, and run some injector cleaner. Thanks for the suggestions.
you don't necessarily have to look at your ignition wires to tell if they are bad, They could look just fine, but they go bad after a while. It's just a good idea to replace them.
Good info from the other guys as well. OEM parts are always the best to go with, not aftermarket "OEM".
