DOHC ZC w/ some transmission questions.
Okay so from looking at the parts list i gathered from somewhere i don't remember where. i came across this.
**Transmission quirks**
88 Transmissions are the only ones that are 21 splined
That means you must use a 88 ONLY clutch kit.
89-91 Transmissions are all 20 spline.
I recently picked up a 5spd transmission out of a 93 D series civic. I got it for 75 bucks which isn't much. but before i get stuck or anything, is there a problem w/ this transmission compared to the other transmissions?
I'm not sure if it will mount and all i will need is just a 88 Clutch kit? or what the deal is. Any info would help alot. Thanks again. (Damn i'm such a honda noob
)

Won't work, its a hydro trans.
Match the clutch to your trans.
I have a DOHC ZC case I can put together for you since you still need a trans. Gearing would just be:
3.250
1.944
1.250
1.066
.771
4.250
Can put a hydro diff in it with new axle seals so you can use stock axles.

damn. well see the problem is. i popped my 4spd transmission a couple fridays ago. i had no idea this 93 tranny was a hydro tranny. I was getting a hell of a deal for it so i figured i'd take it. i'll just put it back on the market and see what else i can find. So i'm going to stay in the EF 5spd's right? I guess i didn't understand the whole 88 clutch disc was a 20 spline. but the rest were all 21 spline.
I guess i'm just wanting to get a 5spd transmission back in this car and running. i miss it.
:edit: so any 5spd out of a EF hatch will work as long as i stick w/ the 88 clutch correct? damn i feel dumb as hell tonight. sorry for the inconvenience!!

Any cable transmission will work which is 88-91. If you have an 88 trans, you use the 88 clutch. If you have 89-91, you use 88-91 or 92-00 with a 92-00 flywheel.
Just so you know the 4 speed tranny used slightly different shafts. I beleive they will still work with a 5spd tranny but I would look into upgrade the front spindles to 5spd ones. That way you can fit a little bit beefier shaft on the spindle.
I wouldn't even bother with a 4spd unless converting it to 5.
All you need are 5spd shift forks, 5th gear assembly with synchro assembly. Throw in a 1.259 3rd gear from an Si, use the 4sp 3rd as 4th, and use whatever 5th you want.
