S2k vs GTO
Hello people.
Me and my friend are thinking about going to the track this following weekend, he has a 2004 pontiac GTO with the big 5.7 V8 engine. I see myself as a pretty good driver and so is he, but wich one do you should win of these two cars.
I know the GTO has alot more power, but it is alot heavier than the s2k, both cars are bone stock and my cars is an ap1.
peace!

ah really? I mean I have never ever seen one around the track, and I have never driven one, but on the paper, it just looks like another Mustang GT wich I know I can take around the track.
road track ofcourse, I was not specific, thats my bad. I know that I would have a hard time on the drag strip.
But I mean the real track, where you have to put brains into the driving :D

I slightly pulled a 350hp GTO from 65mph up to about 120mph. I was surprised. He was bone stock and I had a K&N air filter, Feels exhaust, and Invidia test pipe. Everything else stock.

Well yeah, my buddy had a S2k before he bought the GTO, it was always a draw between us so it will be interesting to se then. Hopefully I will take his soul away from him

Very true. Driver skill will mean a 10 second difference in the same car going around the same track. If you don't have the skill, it won't matter what you drive.
The GTO will be easier to drive around the course, and passing options are much better if you've got a power and torque advantage. The S2000, in stock form, is definately a handful on the track. You need to be an exceptional driver to make it around the track quickly. The GTO is much more predictable, and that's worth a lot if you're a track novice.

Well I will let you guys know how it will go, it's might be this friday or saturday, I might even record it with a camera in the car if I have it.

I don't think passing options would even come into play. I don't see the track officials allowing amateurs to pass in corners. Only passing allowed would be on a straight away, and the slower car has to give way to the faster. Basically due to safety reasons, this is what I've experienced every time I've tracked my car.
You'd basically be timing your lap in this case, and then comparing the two.

ok, well other than the legendary santos, no one else should even consider attempting to mess around with a 6.0.

not even.. you should never be intimadated from the car next to you...... learn your car, the right shift points... how she reacts and aware of the surroundings and you too can distroy the enemy

FYI there was no 5.7 in 05 only in 04
. And you're a fool if you think the 5.7 is crap. Alot of them can make just as much if not more power than the 6.0 due to more parts readily avail for the 5.7
But anyways back on topic, I think the s2000 will win on road track. The GTOs are boats in regards to handling.

fyi guys. the 04 had the 5.7 ls1 with 350hp and the 05+ had the 6.0 ls2 with 400hp. both cars run the same times. maybe a 10th or so difference.
the ls2's have some kind of "flaw" if u call it with the the intake mani. it SOAKS the heat. ls2s actually get slower with back to back passes compaird to the ls1.
also, the gto is an increadably hard car to launch unlesss you have alot of seat time. MOST AVERAGE drivers run high 13s and flat 14s. i even saw an 04 running 15.2s@9x when i was at the track.. not to mention gearing is on the s2ks favor by far. gto gear is extremely long
strait line and both stock.=driver race
road track. id favor the s2k unless the gto has some supension mods
for the record. the LSX motors respond like crazy to mods.. afr/slp heads and cam will bump up to around 500hp..
