5 1/4 or 6 1/2 for doors?
I'm looking at replacing my doors speakers this week. Anything beats the oem speakers.
What are guys using for door speakers? I'm working on my 90 Civic Sedan. It's listed as 6 1/2's, but every site also says 5 1/4's will fit. I'm at work other wise I'd go look right now.
I've already got a pair of 6 1/2's in my basket (shopping online as I type) for my rear deck speakers, just needed that extra assurance for the doors.
Thanks HT-ers.

A standered 6.1/2 will fit your doors. You can also use a 5.1/4 speaker too. Use the 6.1/2 and your good to go.

I always got away with air sawing the plastic basket a little to make em fit. Just make sure the depth don't come close to the window.
I like those Boston's... Have you hear a pair of them? What are they comparative too? Also, I was unsure when looking, but do they have Components to match well with those coaxial??

As mentioned, you can use 5.25" speakers. [although you may need a gasket to get a seal, depends on brand] or you can use a standard 6.5", [not to be confused with the over-sized 6.5"] your stock speaker is a standard 6.5" with a 2" mounting depth.
The main diff. between standard 6.5" and over-sized 6.5" speakers is the mounting hole diameter, the standard 6.5" uses a 5" diameter mounting hole, the over-sized 6.5" uses a bigger then 5" diameter mounting hole and the size depends on the brand and even the model of a brand.
EG; the Alpine SPR-17C... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...R-17C is called a 6.5" coax, but it needs a 5-5/16" mounting hole...
The Alpine SPS-17C2... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...-17C2 also called a 6.5" coax, but needs a 5-39/64" mounting hole....
The Alpine SPS-M600... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...-M600 also called a 6.5" coax, but it is a standard 6.5" speakers and needs a 5" mounting hole.
The other issue is mounting depth, as mentioned, stock is 2" or less.
There are ways "around" all the above, also as mentioned MDF "rings", [adapters] will give you and extra 3/4" - 1" mounting depth, cutting a hole for the speaker magnet will get you another 1/2" - 3/4" of mounting depth.
The MDF adapter ring can also be used to install an over-sized 6.5" speaker into the standard 6.5" OEM speaker housing.
So the question is, what 6.5" speakers did you order?????

Kenwood KFC-1651S
They were $25 a pair new. Pretty much a upgraded oem style speaker.
This is just my 'park & ride' car. The factory speakers crackeled with the volume at 2. Just gets worse with any adjustments made.
I just got a new Kenwood KDC-135 deck for $70. I only need to get to 12 on volume, so no big bump needed.
