Function Form Type II Questions (?installation/drive-ability?)
Note: i've owned an 85 hatch, 91 hatch, 92 hatch, 99 coupe civic, and now a 96 sedan,... all of them i've had performance shock and spring combination on everyone untill this past summer, finally got a set of complete full coilovers, the Form Function Type II's!
First off, the design, and esthetics of the product is great.
To keep it simple the first day i put them on i wanted to see how it would sit dumped!
1. so first i basically took the top locking ring (1 out of 3 rings in total) and hand tighten it equally to all 4 units for some kind of preload.
2. then locked them into place with the second locking ring.
3. lastly, i took bottom adjustable perches on all 4 units and spun them up as far as they could go to shorten the overall total length of unit to see how low this would get the car to sit.
i wish i took pics, but to get a visual on it.... i was on 14" wheels with 186/60r14's and the front was just tucking a little bit in the front maybe about half inch, and in the rear i would say that i was tucking about 2 inches of tire.
looked a little ridiculous so the next day i raised the rear to of equal height as the front, and have been driving it since till this past weekend, i took them off due to our horrible winter season here in toronto canada... i did not want this investment to get weather beaten at all.
so here is my concern...
i honestly can not remember when i started to notice this, because i was just happy to have a new complete coilover set up and loved the way it sat on the car,... but i thought that i was hearing too much knocking noise from thes wheels when going over bumps or rough roads.
at first i thought it was the upper control arms, but then i thought that it might be my wheels, cuz i didnt have the hub ring/spacers on.
but then last wednesday i switched to my oem wheels and winter tires, and still heard the knocking noises while going over bumps or rough roads?
lastly, i finally on saturday i took the coilovers off and put the oem suspension back on like i said for the winter, and checked my control arms, arms were fine no play, and coilovers looked fine, no signs of bottoming out, leaks or anything,... went for a drive, and noise was gone?
(note: drove both full stiff and full soft setting, no change in noise)
any feed back on this?
like i said i've never used full coilover set ups before this.
anyone with these coilovers? same concerns? soloutions?
i was thinking would more pre-load make a difference?
please and thanks for take the time to read, and thanks in
advance to anyone that can help me on this.

Hmm. Not sure about the knocking noise. I have the same suspension on my 98 coupe. I do rub the tires on the fenderlinings sometimes, but Ive never heard any knocking.
I didnt adjust my pre-load at all. I left it the way I got it. Maybe somehow, when you adjusted yours, it did something.
Good luck finding out what the problem might be.

when i had my omni 6way adj full coilovers, i had somewhat the same problem. it was a preload problem.

I'm from Toronto and I just bought the same suspension set-up.
I'm really tempted to install them now but don't want the salt to wear them down.
And ya it must be teh pre-load because it makes perfect sense.
