how do you guys feel about them and which do you prefer DX,SI???

 

Si because its the shortest geared and makes a D series feel fast.

And I want your HF tranny lol. MPG FTW.

 

i love it my hf gets between 44-51mpg

 

SI trans is the way to go. if yo don't want MPG.

 

When i had my d series, My HF tranny was great on gas. Reved like 2500 cruisin. Now with my J1 i am at 5k crusin.

Selling my rebuilt HF tranny if any one wants it.

 

I wish my fifth gear was taller. I overtake often though, so being lower in the rpm at cruising would suck.

If you dont want your HF tranny, i'll take it. ya those suck. they arent worth much. you want an Si trans buddy.

he has a good point though, get a z6 or a6 motor with a tranny and swap as a whole.

i used to have a 92 2 door s-10 blazer bagged with a LT1 camaro engine in it and an old timer came up to me in a parking lot one day and said... "it's like polishing a turd." i said "what???" he replied "putting an engine like that in a big rectangle brick, that's the least aerodynamic vehicle you could pick!" and he walked away shaking his head.

Well then come in and be specific. Like purpose of car. Motor in car. Future mods. For all we know a ZC/SI hybrid trans might be the best.

Plus it is pure speculation on what is "the best", what is best for me might not be the case for someone else.

Details people details. Don't ask broad questions and not expect broad answers.

 

i have a 91 dx hatch that i bought as an original auto car,i did a si 5 speed swap on it.my motor is the ol gay stock d15b2 with the dual point fuel injection im at like 4-4,500 at 70 mph on the highway and i hate it

Actually, the STD transmission is basically just an HF transmission without fifth gear (same ratios 1-4), and with a shorter final drive. As such, it is actually a better transmission than the HF transmission for performance.

I have to say that I don't feel the HF transmission improves fuel economy alot. I actually just swapped out the SI transmission in my brother's old Civic for an HF transmission. And I don't feel like it has improved economy much. In fact, economy still doesn't seem to be any better than my ITR CRX. By the way, the motor is a stock DX motor.
