Shaving My Molding!!! Pictures Inside!!!
Well, my friend and I each decided to shave our molding about a week ago when we were in San Diego fiending to work on our cars. I started lastnight at 6pm and the final picture included was from about 12:30am but an hour of that was spent running to two different walmarts for Bondo.
It's coming along really great I think for only 6 hours of work on it. I only took pitures of the drivers side, the other side just has fiberglass on it as of right now.
It was a big step for me to start sanding my paint that i just got about 3 months ago. ohwell though!!!
The car before:

Then I sanded and added Fiberglass:

Then 2 layers of bondo:

Then I went to bed!
By the way, this is only my second time doing bodywork!!!!

Thanks Marked!!!! I'm pretty positive that i'll be okay as far as cracking goes, There isn't a lot of bondo on there, it's mostly fiberglass. And for welding, you can use either fiberglass or weld, it's just to cover the holes. my friend welded his before bondo and his ended up cracking cause the metal wasnt forgiving enough. I'm doing what i want to with my car, I've made it fast and now I feel like setting it apart lookswise so to each their own. I'm really happy with it so far. I just think that the boxy style of our cars look great with clean,
flat sides.
flat sides.
i had no choice, the moldings were shaved when i bought the car. any one know of ways to remove it??? I know body work, but never heard of removing bondo.

I think it looks pretty good. Do you have some part numbers of the stuff you used? I'd like to try my hand at some fiberglass filling...
How about some of the things you learned (tips/tricks)???

It shouldnt crack because he has a hard backing....If it was all bondo, it would crack. What makes bondo crack is being too thick or not having a good bond onto the surface. It should be ok. Looks good....good work.

Thanks guys, I'm glad that there is some postive feedback. I have the other side in the same state now. I only worked on it for about 2 hours today, it was too hot. I should have it totally filled and smoothed by tommorrow or the next night. I'm going to just primer the area black when i get there. I'll keep the pictures coming.
that's what i'm saying. i heard that stuff cracks. good work though.
You're kinda supposed to weld metal underneath that first. Don't slam the door too hard
