Default b18a1 swap into '91 hatch

ok, ive done reseach and heres what ive come up with, could you guys give me the "OK" before i rip apart the car? thanks.
two cars- complete '91 integra ls (donor car) and a '91 civic dx (both are pgmfi)
- for the axles i believe i can just use the ones on the teg
- for the mounts i can purchase them or maybe cut and weld
- for the ECU i think i should be able to just plug the integra's up to the dx's harness
- for the harness i believe i can use the dx's

this is just what i have read so if anyone knows otherwise or would like to correct me and point me in the right direction or like to give me any advise i would greatly appreciate it! thanks also im only 15 so im on an EXTREMELY low budget and most of it is already gone from the purchase of the cars thanks again!!!!!!!

You'll need to convert your DPFI to MPFI for the LS swap to work, just search MPFI conversion or DPFI to MPFI in the archives of this forum and you'll find all you need for that.

You'll need the motor, tranny, ECU, axles and halfshaft from the teg and also the rear motor mount also known as the "L" bracket or "T" bracket. it will all bolt in with aftermarket mounts but you'll need to pound out your frame a little for the alternator to clear. short of that and a few other things you'll find when searching some more it will be a straight forward swap thats been done thousands of times

Ive got a Dx Harness modded for MPFI for sale. I used it with my B16. The harness would wire up in your car with a few sensors left over (for vtec. You could delete them if you wanted.) just get someone with some wiring knowlege to plug it up for you.

ORRRR

you could do it the hard way like i am currently doing.

I too am doing a b18a1 into my 91 dx hatch. I pulled the entire dash harness and engine harness from a DA integra. Everything should plug up fine with the exception of leftover plugs (sun roof, abs, power locks, power windows, cruise control...) Ill be doing a writeup soon. Good luck with the swap. let me know how it goes.

Why go through so much work?? it's not that hard to convert to MPFI, it just takes some time to run the wires cleanly. Replacing the dash harness seems like a HUGH waste of time, what benifits are there going to be from doing that? Your still going to run your oem EF dash right? Your EF dash harness will not affect your engine harness, just convert yours to MPFI and call it a day........unless I am missing something that you may not have mentioned?

well... i have gone through alot with the car.

The harness was done correctly for my car... but the shop that i PAID to install the harness for me... chopped up my ecu plugs... looks like an electrical fire waiting to happen. I decided to do it this way because i didnt want any sliced wires, i also wanted it to look clean inside and out. You are right the swap is very straight foward. Doing the dash harness swap is more-less me wanting to be able to drive the car with no WHAT IF's in my head. At least i know if something is on the fritz... its not the harness. Hope that clears my logic up for ya.

That sucks when somebody needlessly hacks up your wires I am pretty sure tthat your dash harness will still be fine, you ECU plugs are not directly connected to your dash harness they are actually connected to the cars cabin (main harness) harness so to replace your dash harness will do nothing except give you more wires hanging that you don't need, not to mention the DA harness will not plug up to your EF multiplex unit (fusebox). It sucks to say but if your ECU plugs are cut then your going to need to resolder the ends back on (I have some OBD 0 plugs with plenty of wire if you need) because the only other option is replacing your entire cars harness which is way too much work for what you need and would be a pain to locate one as well.

So what if i use the portion of the DA Harness that just includes the ECU Plugs. I have had to do it on a car (other than a honda). Just trace the ecu plugs thru the harness and do away with what we dont need. it should work. im just trying to use what i have without having to spend anymore money (cause im tapped out for a few more weeks)...

ok, i have another question. the transmission i have is, im pretty sure, a S1/YS1. im looking to buy a LSD. ive looked at OBX and ive heard they arent the BEST but theyre cheap. ive also heard you can get them strait from honda in Japan though i cannot find anything about this.it looks like quaife is a popular diff. but they are really expensive. so what im asking is what should i get? i dont want a phantom grip but i dont know how good these OBX diffs are if theyre this cheap. does anyone have any experience in this situation? or if someone out there has one for sale? thanks for you help!

BTW: The car will be used for drag racing in a street tire class with either a drag radial or m&h street et's

no i dont believe it does, it looks like the lsd's only came in the '94+ type r's, though i could be wrong. also it only fries off one of the wheels when launched.

yea. USDM trannys neverhad lsd unless it was the type r tranny. JDM trannys (si, sir, and type r) had lsd.

if you are like me and have an LS tranny. the only option you have is paying 900 bucks for a brand new one unless you can find a used one cheaper.

how much would you let that LS DC sport header go for?

well i dont have enough money to buy a tranny and me and my dad have put an lsd into a vr6 jetta so were capable of doing it. i just dont know which one to get. i cant spend over like 400 bucks. also i need a 6 puck clutch. someone in the performance forums has one for sale but i cant ask him anything because im just a trial user. its a brand new gripforce stage 3 clutch for $110 shipped. although he doesnt say if it includes the throwout bearing or pressure plate. is there any way i can communicate with him? thanks guys

I didnt see anyone else mention this, but you need aftermarket b-series into a EF chassis shift linkage. You always have the option of cutting and welding the DA linkage to make it a bit shorter, but I always found it easier to just buy it.

P.S. Gripforce is a ebay brand, I had a OEM gripforce a while back and wasnt too happy with the quality and build of the clutch/pressure plate. Looks as if it were thrown together quickly. If you're going to be all out dragging this car, I'd personally look for something a little stronger...

Always remember, you get what you pay for.
