2004 CRV wasting gas
hello guys, my mom has a 2004 crv and its eating up gas. I drove it about 30-40 miles (hwy) and it ate up more gas than usual. When she got her oil changed the mechanic said she needed to change her fuel filter. I used to drive a 97 prelude and I remember one time I was doing a tune up on my car and i heard that hondas has their fuel filters in the fuel tank and you would have to take the tank apart just to get the filter out. i dont remember if it was my bb6 or another car thought.
so any info or help solve the problem would be greatly appreciated

You are assuming it used more fuel than normal for a 40 mile trip? What did you use to measure the fuel economy? A fill up and calculated miles per gallon, or are you relying on the very inacurate fuel guage?
A restrictive fuel filter would show symptoms during high fuel demands, such as rapid acceleration. I can't see how a fuel filter would reduce fuel economy during normal driving.

well i drove her car last week and i drive it like a grandma. no fast acceleration at all. and on a 40-50 mile trip it wasted about half a tank. i know it doesnt waste this much for that kind of trip that is mostly hwy.
ill drive it around this weekend and see how much it wasted by the odometer.
all im asking is this a symptom to a problem? is there anything i can check/fix?

Again, are you relying on the fuel guage to determine this, or did you actually fill up and calculate the miles per gallon?
FWIW, our CRV only gets 24-25mpg with a 60% highway / 40% city trip. The reason I bring up the fuel guage is because they are notoriously inacurate. My fuel light came on once as I arrived at my destination. Later, when I left, it was off and remained off for almost 30 miles.

Ditto on this one. Do the miles per gallon calculation. Fill up the tank to full. Drive 50 or so miles. Fill the tank back up to full. Divide miles driven by gallons filled. This will give you a pretty accurate MPG. Let us know

Just a heads up on the 02 and up crv's they have a life time fuel filter and im almost positive you cannot get just the filter as it is a canister style pump n filter-sealed unit
