Prelude Noob help
I just got my fist prelude last week after getting rear-ended in my other car. I've been reading the HT forums for a while trying to get as much info as possible before posting a question, and although there is tons of great info here i guess because of some abbreviations and lack of knowledge I'm left slightly confused. I have a 97 Prelude with the H22 engine. Im looking to boost it at at low psi somewhere around 5-8 on stock internals for now. I know i have to upgrade the fuel system, and EMS but this is where i get lost. I see lots of chip names like p28 and p72, how do i tell which i have and what exactly do i have to do to use a hondata system like the s200 or s300 to work with this car and control boost. I really appreciate the help in advanced and forgive my noobishness, this is my first post.
Since you have a '97 Lude you have the H22, all H22's come with a P13ECU. If you want to run Engine Management Software, which you should since you are planning on modifying your car, most suggest you change your ECU froma P13 to a P28 or P72, which I believe come from an Integra, and then buy a system to tune it. Here are two links, the first of which is a FAQ thread with some info about ECU options, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=567799 , this one is some basics about forced induction, the neccessary steps to prepare an engine for forced induction depend on what you want to do, here are some of the basics and there are a few more threads in faq as well, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=783372 . Hope this helps some.
Good Luck.

Are you sure? I thought 96+ were all obd2 and were different computers. If I'm right, than your ecu options are limited. You can buy an aftermarket ecu like AEM, or whatever. Or you can do a obd2->obd1 conversion and then run the p28 or p72 computer with hondata, or crome, or whatever you want. If I'm wrong and you do have the p13, you can chip it or run crome or uberdata, or whatever. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can run hondata on the p13. And somebody correct me if I'm wrong about the other ****.
Firstly, 96 Prelude VTEC models came with the only obd2 P13 ever made. For that year only.
97+ Preludes came with p5p and p5m ecus.
None of which you can use with Hondata, crome, NepTune, etc.
Lunchbox, check out our ecu reference thread. A lot of good info. It is linked from the FAQ, take a look through there next time first.

What you need to do is get:
Obd2 -> obd1 ecu adapter harness
Obd1 P72 ecu if you want to keep the secondaries in the intake manifold working, a p28 is cheaper and will work but does not control them.
Then pick from the EMS choices, I recommend NepTune.
In the future, try and title your threads more descriptively as well.
Welcome
