The only issue I can think of (aside from the extra weight) is making sure the lug nuts have the right seating area for your wheels. The seating area is the area where the lug nut comes into contact with the wheel, as shown at the bottom of each of the lug nuts in the illustration below.

Most Honda/Acura wheels have a ball-shaped (radius) seating area and need lug nuts which also have a ball-shaped seating area. Most aftermarket wheels, and most aftermarket lug nuts, have a tapered (conel) shaped seating area. You need to use lug nuts that have the same shape seating area as your wheels do.

No it's not okay. Aftermarket lug nuts on OEM wheels (or vice versa) is very unsafe, for the reason posted above. Use OEM or OEM-style lug nuts w/ OEM wheels, nothing else.

I don't know about the rally car, but the RX-7 was not a result of incorrect style of lug nuts, but rather lugs that were too short and didn't engage all of the threads on the studs.

Man that's harsh. I thought the RX-7 lost his wheels because of incorrect torque but short lug nuts makes more sense.
