Default Need help with AEM EMS

Having some issues with the AEM Ems, most of which have been worked out, but the startup issues have stumped a lot of the tuners here in Lexington. Here's the scoop:

If it's below freezing out, you can forget about starting the car on the AEM. I have to plug the stock ECU in, start the car and let it idle (it will die in about 10 seconds, AF reads about 19-22 to 1 on stock ecu lol), turn off the key, plug the AEM back up, and it will start and run fine.

If I have been driving more than ten minutes, I cannot turn the car off or it will not start back until it has cooled, which usually takes about an hour. This means I cannot turn the car off to fuel up, or do any type of running around town.
Basically, the car sucks as a dd until I can get these fixed. I can only start the car if it has been sitting more than an hour but less than about 6hrs.

If anyone can lend a hand, brain, or genius idea to come to a solution, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone knows of the closest authorized AEM tech in the KY area (someone who knows exactly what is wrong), or even somewhere within driving distance, I would make the drive... This piece of **** that AEM calls an "engine management system" has left me hating my car. It is more of a chore to drive it than an enjoyment.

one more thing that prob has nothing to do with the EMS, heat is turned all the way up, but the car only blows hot air when there is load on the engine (ie. driving). Sucks on these cold wintry days.

Knowing that you have the 1052, you shouldn't be having any issues with the startup. You might have a defective unit.

Try updating the software, and if that doesn't work out, give AEM a call.

i have spent countless hours on the phone with their ecu techs, and they have already had the EMS there twice to be looked at. It is not defective, they say there is nothing wrong with it

If you've talked to AEM, and it's not a defective unit. It's your starter map that needs edit. (if in fact it's the AEM EMS that is the issue).

Have you posted on the AEM forum?

yes, however when you post on the aem forum, the thread stays open-ended FOREVER. There is no such thing as any sort of tech that browses the forums so any question a person has stays unanswered. Check it out yourself...

Are you trying to tune the EMS yourself?

I would post in the Ohio s2ki forum and ask for a recommended tuner in the Cinci area who knows EMS.

Or shoot Mase an email or contact Stage6 in Jacksonville, FL to ask if Mase will be traveling to your area any time soon to tune.

Or maybe take a long trip over to Virginia and visit InlinePro since they have a ton of experience tuning stroked s2ks.

One other thing...when you are trying to start are you turning the key and then immediately hitting the start button? The EMS takes a couple seconds to initialize. The trick Mase taught me is to turn the key and wait until the dash tachometer drops to 0rpm, then hit the start button. Not sure if you knew that. But if you try to start immediately after turning the key, the car will not start or run like **** for a few minutes. It's a quirk of the EMS.

I did a little research for you...supposedly there is a AEM certified tuner in Cinci who uses the dyno at Raceline Tuning.

Raceline
4713 Industry Drive
Fairfield OH 45014

The tuner is Rick Williams (http://tuned1.com).

You might also try posting on CincinatiStreetracing.com

hey man had this problem at the track this weekend. Buddies nsx blown on aem ems. would not start in the morning. Willow springs was about 25 to 32 degrees.

The car had ran the night before and then was trailered to the track. car would crank but we had no fuel pressure. no signal from ecu. the original ecu was in the car still being used for the stepper motor. plugged the thing in and wouldn't you know it started.
warmed it up and plugged the aem ems back in and off we went.

later that day we had some one bring up the map at the shop. cold start was set for 45 degrees.

have who ever is tunning your car look for cold start parameters. or have extra intake temp sensor and coolant temps sensors to plug in warm.

If you want you can send me your map to tuned1rick@yahoo.com. Ill see if anything wrong jumps out at me. Have you singled out the ems or are you just assuming that is the cause? I did have a ems that would not start a 05' S2k a few months ago. The ems was bad. Swapped it out and . Are all your sensors calibrated?
