Default Which block should I sleeve?

Alot of you on here know I'm building a turbo motor. That being said should I keep my C5 block for safe keeping and sleeve a GSR block?

I'd hate if I ever tossed a rod through the C5 block ( ) and then have to use the C1 block if I ever wanted to return to N/A.

Buy this one for $350, and voila.

It depends, what are the main bearing colors?

They're essentially the same block, so I wouldn't concern myself too much with it, unless you like the "C5" stamp.

It doesn't seem like it would make much sense to purchase another block if you already have a perfectly serviceable one.

Very true. I can understand wanting to keep the C5 block untouched if you have any plans in the future to sell the engine or the entire car, in which case it would potentially bolster resale value. However, if this is a project and you intend to keep the car and engine in your possession, I'd probably just go ahead and work with the C5.

Let me ask a related question:

If you buy a block that's disassembled, that doesn't have bearings, you can't use OEM bearings without knowing the colors, right?

ACL bearings are pretty much my only choice?

Now this exactally how is how I think. ^^^^^^^^^^^^

I was just trying to preserve the stock block because the B18C/C1 blocks are a dine a dozen compared to the C5's. I don't see me selling the car anytime in the distant future but still wanted to play it safe and not make a wrong decision.
I'm not building a "dyno queen" just to have the bragging rights to say I have XXX-WHP. I know I could make 350-400 WHP w/ ease but I'm afraid to try that on the stock sleeves.

G-F-K, you can find some decent information about sizing bearings here: http://forums.evans-tuning.com...t=326

To know which OEM bearings you need. Take a snap gauge measurement of the main and rod bearings. Take a mic measurement of the main and rod journals. Do some math and get the bearings the give you the clearance you are shooting for. Or go with ACL's, which are greens.

if it were my choice, i'd keep the C5 sat by and just mess around with the C1 to your hearts content, not needing to worry if you popped it

No biggie anyways. If you punch a hole in the C5, just have it welded up and resleeved again or buy a new bare block.

I am actually going through the same delimma,,I turboed the type R but, tuned it very conservative=never enough power. I was considering even sleeving a B20 block and doing a ls/vtec or the c1 not sure which would be cost effective yet..but definitly want to keep the original c5 safe.

I've always wanted to boost my ITR .... a nice Full-Race stage 1 with the GT28RS and Hondata S300 .... would be dope.

However ....

If I ever did decide to go boost, I'd pick my completely stock and low mile C5 and put it on a engine stand. I'd go out and buy a C1, or jdm B18C and work with that.

I'd say go for that GSR bottom end, and see if you can find a cheap used B16 head somewhere, and keep your C5 complete and intact. Polish her up real nice, and if you ever want to go N/A or sell the car, swap her back in.

just buy a blank GE block and let them do their magic. keep the R block as a spare or for when you decide to get rid of the turbo setup.

I wish I woulda kept my block as a spare instead of building it for turbo.

If I'd not been bitten by boost I would have never made this thread.
Oh well theres no turning back now. But I plan to keep my C5 block should I ever go back N/A.
