Default EF Racecar guys, front upper A-arms?

Searching for some adjustability in camber for my EF and found these:

Any good? Or are they crap?

Ive had experience with the Vision UCA set, it worked good to dial in plenty of negative camber.

a fellow racer did something similar and ran it for 15 plus sprint races, and 14 hours straight in an enduro.

I went with the Visions a while back, but had too much camber. I was running about 3.5 degrees, and couldn't get it any lower. Then I modded the arms, and was able to get down to about 3 degrees. That turned out to still be too much.

I then did the "bent knuckles" trick (I bent the top of the knuckle "in 1/2"), and now have the front set at 2 1/4 degrees, with room to go either way a bunch. I could probably go 2 or more degrees further in (4+ degrees negative) and at least 1 less degree (more positive).

Edit for stupidity with the direction I bent the knuckle.

Any more info on bending the knuckles? Do you heat them, doesn't it weaken them?

I used heat, and got them hot enough that they started to glow. I'm not sure if they were weakened or not. I suspect no. I've done 2 seasons of autocross and probably 5,000 miles of street driving with them like this. I'd be surprised if you could get them to bend in any accurate fashion if you didn't heat them.

It really depends on how Honda designed the part to begin with. Also, since the upper control arm was formed by a hydroforming or similar process then there was some amount of material microstructural change in the part, which results in some coarser grain component of Pearlite phase grain structure to exist. Usually, a part that is formed like this is subjected to a heat induced normalizing phase to refine the microstructural grain structure. Finer grained steels (pearlite structure) are tougher than coarser grained structures.

If the design and engineering calculations depended on a certain strength requirement that called for a particular heat treament such as quenching, normalizing, or tempering then there also might have been (most probably)a heat treatment specification. If you went and heated the part up to a high enough temperature and allowed the part to air cool, then you basically changed the heat treatment of the material. As a result, the strength, ductility, and other mechanical properties also were altered.

Though there is a very real possibility that Honda did heat treat the part, I did let it air cool upon completion of the bending. I have experienced no trouble with the end result of the work (so far). Who knows what might happen in the future. I suspect the only time I might have trouble is in the event of a collision failure. Here's hoping that would be the only time.

Oh, and just to be perfectly clear here, we are discussing the knuckle, and not the UCA. The mods I did to the upper control arm were limited to material removal from the Vision aluminum ball joint holder as well as the receiver "cup" that Vision welded into the OEM control arm.
